Hello!
As autumn deepens,
the 'Goyang City' festival
has begun, where you can truly enjoy our traditional liquor.
It's the '2026 Goyang City National Makgeolli Festival'!
Breweries from all over the country
gather to showcase a variety of makgeolli,
making it a delightful event for both makgeolli enthusiasts
and those interested in traditional liquors!
This festival features around 240 different types of makgeolli,
including popular local breweries like Makgeolli, Goyang Takju,
Baedari Suldoga, and Haengjusanseongju.
With over 80 breweries participating,
it was particularly impressive to see both easily accessible makgeolli
and unique products from local breweries all in one place.
On the first day of the festival,
the venue was bustling with visitors.
Many people were contemplating which makgeolli to try next,
and there were long lines in front of popular brewery booths waiting for tastings.
A highlight of this festival was undoubtedly the tastings.
Visitors could sample different makgeolli from various breweries,
comparing flavors, aromas, sweetness, and acidity.
Typically, one might only encounter one or two types of makgeolli,
but experiencing such a diverse range in one location
was truly special.
Visitors could purchase their favorite products directly on-site.
Many items were available at lower prices than in stores,
making it common to see attendees selecting multiple bottles.
The 'Special Stage' in front of the Cultural Plaza
attracted attention with the sounds of traditional instruments,
and performances from the Goyang Taekwondo Demonstration Team
and popera singers enhanced the festive atmosphere.
On this day, the festival welcomed many officials,
including the mayor of Goyang City and representatives from the National Makgeolli Association,
who shared congratulatory remarks.
The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable!
Tables were set up for visitors to sit and rest,
and many attendees brought their own mats.
After purchasing makgeolli, groups of friends gathered to chat and enjoy drinks,
creating a warm and inviting environment.
This festival showcased how makgeolli goes beyond being just a drink;
it naturally connects people.
I hope this festival will further invigorate the traditional liquor industry
and make it more relatable to younger generations.
Thank you!
