The 6th Gamaksan Flower Star Travel Festival officially concluded today, October 11th. During the festival, I visited the vibrant purple waves of flowers at Byeolbaram Hill on Gamaksan last Wednesday, capturing the essence of autumn.
While the main events of the festival have ended, I have great news: the Flower Star Market and Food Market will continue operating until October 18th! The flowers are still beautifully in bloom, making it a perfect late autumn retreat.
1. Purple Aster and Pure White Chrysanthemum Fields
As you ascend to Byeolbaram Hill at an altitude of 900 meters, you are greeted by breathtaking waves of purple flowers.
Basking in the Wednesday sunlight, the purple asters are now at their peak bloom, filling the air with the rich scent of autumn with every step along the walking paths.
Below the pine forest, the clusters of pure white chrysanthemums offer a different charm, resembling a snow-covered landscape. Walking through the forest trails, you are enveloped in a serene and refreshing autumn romance.
2. Exotic Scenery with Giant Wind Turbines
The most striking feature of the flower fields on Gamaksan is the towering white wind turbines spinning majestically beyond the vast flower fields.
The clear blue autumn sky, the grand wind turbines, and the endless expanse of purple flowers create an exotic atmosphere reminiscent of European highlands.
Just watching the petals swaying in the breeze alongside the wind turbines is a breathtaking scene that brings instant healing.
Another highlight is the sea of silver grasses swaying in the wind, complemented by unique sculptures. The maze of silver grass and the grand natural sculptures create a stunning photo zone exclusive to Gamaksan.
3. Extended Operation Until October 18! Flower Star Market & Food Market
Although the performances and official festival programs have concluded, the bustling markets will continue for another week.
At the Flower Star Market, you can leisurely browse and purchase excellent local agricultural products and unique local goods.
The Food Market offers warm local delicacies and snacks for when you feel hungry while strolling through the flower fields, available until October 18.
Tips for Your Visit
Prepare warm outerwear: The high altitude can make it breezy, so the perceived temperature is quite low. Be sure to bring a sturdy windbreaker or light padding.
Enjoy a more relaxed outing: With the main festival events over, the crowds are lighter, making it an excellent time to stroll the autumn flower paths before the market ends on the 18th.
The grand finale of visiting Gamaksan is undoubtedly the sunset. As the bright blue sky transitions to red and orange, Byeolbaram Hill transforms into a picturesque landscape.
Golden grasses glimmer in the sunset, creating a romantic scene with the silhouettes of the wind turbines.
The purple flower fields also take on a different, tranquil atmosphere as the evening glow settles.
Tip for Watching the Sunset: Arrive 30 minutes before sunset to enjoy the slowly reddening sky and mountain ridges. As the sun sets, temperatures drop rapidly, so a warm drink and cozy outerwear are advisable.
Although the Gamaksan Flower Star Travel Festival has ended, the beauty of the purple asters, chrysanthemums, wind turbines, and sunset continue to inspire. The Flower Star Market and Food Market will remain open until October 18th, allowing everyone to enjoy the late autumn romance.
