Sunset Observatory in Waemok Village: A New Scenic Spot
At the edge of Dangjin, Waemok Village is known as the village where the sun rises and sets.
Here, you can enjoy both sunrise and sunset simultaneously.
The morning sun rising against the backdrop of Saebit Waemok is one of the best sunrise spots on the West Coast.
In contrast, the sunset was somewhat obscured.
This summer, a sunset observatory has opened to enjoy the sunset scenery.
It is reborn as a sunset spot in addition to the sunrise.
The observatory is designed to resemble the image of the wind.
Opening hours of the sunset observatory:
10 AM to 10 PM (open year-round)
August, after the rainy season, continued with extreme heat,
and as mid-month approached, the weekends were marked by gloomy weather.
Including the Liberation Day holiday, it has been a series of rainy or cloudy days.
The journey I had anticipated with excitement often turned into disappointment.
The day I visited Waemok Village was no different.
After checking the weather for two days, I was anxious,
but the weather was worse than the previous day.
The sunset observatory is located at the entrance of Waemok Beach,
at the Waemok Village Auto Camping Site.
It is one of the highest points in the area, along with Seokmun Mountain.
At about 17 meters high, it overlooks the beach.
To the right of the auto camping site, the observatory covers an area of 152 square meters and has about three floors.
It features a lower resting area and a stepped viewing space.
From the 2nd and 3rd floors, it has an open structure allowing for 360-degree views,
regardless of which direction the sun sets.
The surrounding landscape viewed from the 3rd floor is stunning.
Due to the high tide, Saebit Waemok was submerged,
and the sandy beach shrank.
Even on a cloudy day, the view was magnificent.
On a clear day, it would be even more beautiful,
and when the sunset colors the sky, a fantastic scene is expected.
You can see Seokmun Mountain across the wide sandy beach,
along with the nearby Waemok Village Auto Camping Site and the vast fields behind it.
The Sunset Observatory offers breathtaking sunset views,
allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Although the 17-meter observatory may not seem very tall,
its elevated location provides stunning panoramic views.
The stepped viewing area from the 3rd to the 2nd floor is also enjoyable.
You can sit comfortably and relax while watching the beautiful sunset.
Additionally, a media facade is expected after sunset.
Utilizing the building's exterior, which shows two forms depending on the viewing angle,
it presents a variety of colorful light patterns.
Despite the forecast predicting clear skies the night before,
it was disappointing to have rain throughout the day.
I will have to visit again soon to experience the media facade
and enjoy the beautiful sunset at the observatory.
The sunset observatory is connected to a walking path leading to Waemok Beach.
With the construction of the sunset observatory, new paths have also been established.
The deck stairs lead to a beautifully flowered path with blooming Lagerstroemia and hydrangeas.
Even in gloomy weather, the beautiful flower path adds charm.
Waemok Beach was also quiet due to the weather.
Despite the possibility of swimming,
there were no people enjoying the water.
The sunset observatory rises above the low hills to the right of the sandy beach.
Even without swimming, the charm of a rainy summer beach is abundant.
The scenery made it hard to leave, so I enjoyed a brief walk beyond the breakwater.
The empty sandy beach became the domain of seagulls,
and dozens of fishing boats were docked along the breakwater.
The seawater that washed up to the beach due to high tide gently rippled along the shore.
A new scenic spot, the Sunset Observatory, has opened in Waemok Village,
which showcases beautiful scenery throughout the four seasons.
It is open year-round from 10 AM to 10 PM.
