Recommended Valleys in Chungbuk: The Enchanting Deokdong Valley in Jecheon

As the summer heat intensifies, more visitors are seeking cool valleys to escape the heat.
While the beach or water parks are great, I personally enjoy valleys where I can connect with nature.
Today, I want to introduce you to a hidden gem in Jecheon, Deokdong Valley.
Deokdong Valley in Jecheon, Chungbuk, flows for 5 kilometers from Baegunsan and Sijabong to Wonduk-dong.
Although Jecheon is famous for Yonghae Valley and Songgye Valley, Deokdong Valley boasts a refreshing experience equally impressive.
There are numerous campgrounds and pensions around Deokdong Valley, making it a popular spot for camping, but it’s also great for day trips.
For day visitors, parking is available at Deokdong Ecological Forest.
Deokdong Ecological Forest is a forest located in Deokdong Valley, systematically preserving and managing the diverse forest biological resources in the Baegunsan area.
The forest aims to maintain and enhance the stability of forest ecosystems and biodiversity.
In the ecological forest, there are forest bathing areas, sensory experience zones, observation points, and ecological tree bridges. Before enjoying the valley, I visited the Deokdong Exhibition Hall.
Inside the exhibition hall, there is a woodworking exhibition room showcasing various wooden crafts made from natural materials.
I saw flowers made from wood carvings and seashells, along with characters from fairy tales, all beautifully crafted from natural materials.
Going down from Deokdong Ecological Forest leads directly to Deokdong Valley. The path down to the valley is well-maintained, and once you arrive, you are greeted by refreshing water.
Deokdong Valley is surrounded by dense trees, making the temperature 2-3 degrees cooler than flat areas.
As I entered the valley through the lush trees, mist formed around the water, creating a dreamy atmosphere.
I found a nice spot to sit and enjoy the water. It was a day with a heat wave warning, but dipping my feet in the clear water made the heat disappear.
Deokdong Valley is also home to freshwater snails. I caught a few snails in the clear water, and it was fun to see both large and small snails clinging to the rocks. Of course, I returned them to nature on my way home.
The long stretch of Deokdong Valley had plenty of water due to recent rains, and the sound of the cool valley water was truly healing.
There are bridges crossing the valley, making it a pleasant place for a stroll.
Light filtered through the maple trees, creating a special scenery when combined with the mist.
As I watched the light entering the valley in the late afternoon, along with the mist, I felt as if I had entered another world.
Children spent time observing various creatures in nature, while sitting on the rocks with their feet in the water felt chilly.
The lush Deokdong Valley is also abundant with moss.
For moss to thrive, a consistently moist environment with proper light and air circulation is essential, and this place provides the perfect conditions.
The dense trees offer shade for visitors while creating an environment conducive to moss growth.
There is a wooded path next to the valley where you can spread out a mat and enjoy the scenery.
Cooking is prohibited, but you can bring simple snacks to enjoy. Please remember to take your trash with you.
There are portable toilets available throughout the area.
What impressed me most about Deokdong Valley was the light coming through the dense trees and the mist.
Of course, such scenery can vary depending on the weather.
With its clear flowing water and refreshing atmosphere, Deokdong Valley is one of the coolest valleys you can find.
If you are looking for a shaded and cool valley, I highly recommend Deokdong Valley in Jecheon, Chungbuk.
