Exploring the Serene Beauty of Jincheon: A Summer Journey to Okdong Lotus Pond and Gilsangsa Temple

If you want to experience the refreshing nature and tranquil history at the same time in the heart of summer, how about a trip to Jincheon, Chungcheongbuk-do?
In this season of lush greenery, let me introduce you to two of Jincheon's representative attractions: the Okdong Lotus Pond and Gilsangsa Temple.
First, the Okdong Lotus Pond located in Iwol-myeon, Jincheon-gun, is a magnificent sight when the lotus flowers bloom in summer.
If you're looking for a peaceful time in a small countryside village, it's a great spot to stop by.
This year, though, I was a bit disappointed as not many pink lotuses bloomed.
I actually visited on July 12 but found few flowers, so I returned on the 21st, only to discover that there weren't many this year.
However, the view from above is stunning, and the vast expanse of the lotus pond, resembling a green sea, is captivating.
The occasional peaks and red lotuses peeking through the lotus leaves provided small moments of healing amidst the busy daily life.
Next, Gilsangsa Temple, located about 15 minutes from the Okdong Lotus Pond, is another great place to visit.
Leaving behind the lotus flower feast, I found myself at Gilsangsa, which houses the portrait of General Kim Yu-sin.
The temple is renowned for its densely wooded old trees and the cool shade they provide.
As I ascended the stone steps, I felt like I was in heaven, listening to the sound of the breeze rustling through the leaves.
When I first entered, the sun was strong, but upon stepping inside, the refreshing coolness made me forget the heat, making it a very special place.
The shaded forest path at Gilsangsa, away from the scorching summer sun, offered a refreshing experience that left a lasting memory.
Gilsangsa is not a typical temple but a shrine dedicated to General Kim Yu-sin, a key figure in the unification of the Three Kingdoms.
The layout follows the slope, creating a solemn atmosphere as you ascend.
On either side of the entrance gate are ginkgo trees, which would be beautiful in the fall.
After a short five-minute walk, you come to the outer and inner gates of the shrine, allowing for easy viewing.
The steep stone steps lead you upward, naturally evoking a sense of grandeur and reverence.
The serene atmosphere and refreshing shade of the trees create a desirable healing spot.
The main hall, Heungmujeon, houses the portrait of General Kim Yu-sin and is the central building of Gilsangsa.
The traditional wooden roof of Heungmujeon stands out beautifully, resembling a picturesque painting against the sky.
The entire shrine harmonizes with the dense trees of Dodangsan, creating a tranquil and mystical atmosphere.
How about strolling through the lush nature and deep history of Jincheon, experiencing the essence of summer travel at Gilsangsa Temple and Okdong Lotus Pond?
