During the hot summer months, many people seek out refreshing valleys.

I recently visited Muhan Valley, located in Sangchon-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, Chungbuk.

Muhan Valley is known for its clear waters flowing down from the surrounding mountains, including Minju Mountain and Samdobong.

In the summer, it attracts many visitors looking for cool, clear waters and lush forests.

I went on the weekend of the second week of July.

I was worried that the water level might be deep due to the recent monsoon rains, but it turned out to be just right for swimming.

At Muhan Valley, you can rent a pavilion for around 60,000 to 70,000 won for four people, typically available from 10 AM to 5 PM.

We chose not to rent a pavilion and parked our car along the roadside at the valley's entrance to enjoy the water.

There were already several cars parked, and families with young children were having fun in the water.

It was a relaxing atmosphere with many people taking their time to unwind.

The area we chose had varying depths, making it suitable for different age groups to enjoy swimming together.

I even saw a child around four years old playing in the shallow areas with a guardian, while others were tubing in deeper spots.

Since the water depth varies, it's essential for guardians to keep an eye on their children.

Despite concerns about the weather during the rainy season, we experienced a brief downpour while swimming.

The sight of raindrops falling into the valley created a unique atmosphere, making it a memorable time.

We ventured downstream to the parking area, where we noticed many places offering pavilions and pensions for a more leisurely stay at the valley.

The parking area had clean restrooms, and portable toilets were set up along the path leading upstream, ensuring convenience for visitors.

Although we didn't make it to the upper reaches near Hwangnyongsa this time, the atmosphere near the parking area was different from the lower areas.

As we moved upstream, the water became noticeably colder and clearer, with more young people enjoying the swimming spots.

The area near the parking lot was so clear you could see the bottom, and the water felt much colder than downstream.

Visiting made me understand why it's called 'Muhan Valley.'

We visited in the afternoon and brought some light snacks, which tasted even better while dipping our feet in the cool water.

We packed up our trash and leftovers in a bag to take back with us.

If you're looking for a cool valley this summer, consider visiting Yeongdong's Muhan Valley. It's a great summer getaway for family outings, as well as a perfect spot for relaxing with friends or loved ones amidst the clear, cold waters and vibrant nature.
