Exploring the Scenic Beauty of Jincheon in Autumn

When thinking of autumn travel destinations, the first thing that comes to mind is the beautiful foliage. However, in Jincheon, there are stunning landscapes created by the lakes and the terrain.
The Hanbando Geomorphology Observatory Park is a place where you can find the familiar outline of our country amidst nature.
As I looked at the mountains and waterways surrounding Chopyeong Lake, the shape of the land resembling the Korean Peninsula caught my eye. Overlaying the shape I had seen on the map onto the actual landscape provided a different kind of enjoyment compared to a typical lake view.
I passed through the entrance marked with the park's name and headed towards the observatory. Through the trees, I spotted a round tower-shaped observatory. The view changes depending on the height you reach.
There is a 14.5-meter tall tower-shaped observatory here. As you ascend the spiral staircase, the height changes, and the lake and surrounding mountains unfold more widely before you.
From the observatory, I looked down to see the deck and the connecting path below. You can gaze at the space beneath your feet and the distant ridges all at once. The impression differs when viewing just the lake compared to when you see the mountains alongside it, prompting me to change direction and take in the scenery for a while.
Since it is a facility with stairs, wearing comfortable shoes and ascending slowly is recommended.
The spot I gazed at the longest from the observatory was, of course, the Korean Peninsula's shape. The way the waters of Chopyeong Lake wrap around the land is impressive. The contours of the lake and land surrounding it, which are encircled on three sides, highlight the resemblance to the map of our country.
The terrain viewed from the Duta Mountain area evokes not only the shape of the Korean Peninsula but also that of Jeju Island. I enjoyed the time spent finding familiar shapes within the overall landscape.
While the focus is on the Korean Peninsula's shape, the surrounding mountain ranges are also visible. Entrance to the observatory park is free. According to official guidelines, access is prohibited during the winter months of December to February and during severe weather warnings.
Since vehicle access and parking on the mountain roads may vary, it is advisable to check with the Jincheon County tourism office or the Cultural Tourism Department before departure.
