Last Day Review of the Goeisan Chili Festival

This past weekend, I wrapped up a four-day schedule at the Goeisan Chili Festival. I arrived around lunchtime and unfortunately missed the chili-themed experience program, but I still had a fulfilling time. Let me share my experience.

As soon as I entered the festival grounds, visitors were greeted by a variety of sights and tastes. The festival's popularity was evident, with crowds so large that parking was a challenge.

I drove around for 20 minutes before parking near the old Goeisan County Office and walked quite a distance to the festival, which showcased its immense popularity.

Inside the festival, children were deeply engaged in catching fish and ducks. For them, the thrill of fishing was unmatched, leading to laughter as some kids tried to catch ducks by hand.

For those seeking a more realistic experience, there was a live fish catching event available through on-site registration.

The festival had plenty of resting areas where visitors could sit and relax. Many enjoyed a picnic atmosphere, purchasing food from nearby vendors and spreading out blankets to enjoy performances.

The main stage featured a magic show that captivated audiences of all ages, drawing gasps and cheers throughout the performance. I found myself glued to my seat for nearly an hour, impressed by the magician's skills.

The weather was unexpectedly warm, so I took a break in the 'Frozen Zone' experience, where temperatures dropped to -30 degrees Celsius, providing a refreshing escape from the heat.

Next, I visited the World Chili Exhibition Hall, showcasing award-winning chili varieties from Goeisan, different types of chilies from around the world, and artistic works themed around chilies.

After enjoying the performances, I spent about 30 minutes carefully browsing the sales area to buy chilies, while the kids played on the outdoor playground.

After much deliberation, I chose the chilies sold from Chilsung-myeon. The young village chief’s friendly explanations helped, but I also trusted the quality of Goeisan chilies, which are consistently recognized for their excellence.

The prices were consistent across all booths, and I was lucky enough to receive a chili seedling as a gift. Additionally, they even offered a service to drive my purchase back to my parking spot.

Payment could be made by card or cash, with slight price differences based on whether the stems were removed. I opted for the stem-removed option. The village chief's kindness, offering me a refreshing drink, made me look forward to next year's festival.

I promised to meet the village chief again at the Chilsung-myeon booth next year. I usually share the chilies I purchase with my family, and I remember the satisfaction we all had from the red chilies I bought at the dawn market.
