Experience the Musical 'Ms. Chunja in Wonderland' at the 36th Geochang International Theater Festival

Greetings! This is reporter Lee Won-pil from the Geochang Publicity Reporter Group.
It seems the scorching heat has subsided a bit, and a refreshing breeze is blowing!
As I headed towards Susungdae, the cool wind made me feel more focused on enjoying the performance.
I attended the musical 'Ms. Chunja in Wonderland,' which was officially presented at the 36th Geochang International Theater Festival.
When I first heard about the performance, the title intrigued me, and I was curious about the story. I was particularly excited to learn that comedian Kim Jun-hyun would be appearing.
Shall we head to the venue together?
On August 8th (Saturday) at 8 PM, the musical will be performed at the Festival Theater. It is suitable for ages 7 and up and lasts 95 minutes.
The Geochang Cultural Foundation provides free bottled water to help cope with the heat, available in coolers placed around Susungdae.
Please make use of the festival guidebook and pamphlets for convenience.
Before the performance began, the audience was filled with excitement as they awaited the show.
On this summer night in Geochang, I stood in line at the Festival Theater, wondering what kind of stage would unfold today.
I was able to buy tickets at a discount online by purchasing the Geochang resident discount tickets.
The cast of 'Ms. Chunja in Wonderland' includes Chunja (Kim So-ri), Jinsu (Kim Jun-hyun), Seong-chan (Kim Dae-woong), Dajeong (Haimi), Baek Jeong-eon (Seo In-gwon), and the Soul Fish (Yang Na-eun).
The production team includes writer/director Oh Mi-myeong, composer/music director Noh Seon-rak, choreographer Balneungkul, stage designer Shin Na-gyeong, lighting designer Gong Yeon-hwa, sound designer Kim Seong-wook, assistant directors Jeong Ha-im and Ko Seon-hye, stage manager Park Gi-nam, and production PD Jeong Il-hyeong. The production is by the Squid Theater Company and distributed by the National Asian Culture Center Foundation.
The story begins at Chunja's 70th birthday party. While her family encourages her to make a wish, Chunja can't remember what she truly wants after living her life for her family.
Suddenly, a strange world of fantasy unfolds, leading her to meet the Soul Fish that seems to emerge from her inner self, marking the beginning of a special adventure.
In a fun twist, subtracting 70 from 0 makes Chunja feel like she is 7 years old again, allowing her to travel through time.
As she moves between reality and fantasy, Chunja confronts forgotten memories and her true feelings.
Meanwhile, her family realizes she is missing and embarks on a search, reflecting on what Chunja truly means to them.
Throughout her encounters in the fantasy world, Chunja faces themes of aging, fear of death, and love for family, ultimately discovering her deepest wish.
With its vibrant and entertaining musical format, the show not only brings laughter and joy but also offers a warm story that evokes thoughts of parents and family.
Through the question, 'What have I lived for?' the performance encourages reflection on the lives of mothers who have sacrificed for their families, reminding us of the preciousness of our loved ones.
Even amidst laughter, the story can bring a lump to your throat.
'Ms. Chunja in Wonderland' may well be a tale of another Chunja around us, offering warm comfort to all parents who have lived for their families.
After the performance, the laughter and the actors' appearances lingered in my memory. From moments of joy to heartwarming scenes, it was a time filled with both laughter and emotion.
Especially with Kim Jun-hyun's witty acting and the passionate performances of the cast, the show became even more enjoyable.
As I reminisce about the wonderful performance shared with the actors and audience on this hot summer night, I look forward to more shows at the Geochang International Theater Festival.
Enjoy the beautiful nature of Susungdae while creating wonderful memories until the very last moment!
See you in Geochang again!
