Discovering Bukchon Gomtang: A Local Gem in Jincheon

Located in Saseok-ri, Jincheon-eup, Bukchon Gomtang is a model restaurant designated by Jincheon County, popular among local residents and visitors alike. The restaurant adheres to traditional cauldron cooking methods, offering clear and rich broth along with a neat presentation, ensuring a highly satisfying meal.
There is ample parking space right in front of the restaurant. Near the entrance, you'll find a plaque designating it as a model restaurant, along with another plaque recognizing it as a "delicious rice house." The operating hours are from 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM, and it is closed on Wednesdays.
The interior of Bukchon Gomtang features a seating area with traditional floor tables. Guests are required to remove their shoes upon entering, and the cozy yet clean atmosphere retains the charm of an old house.
For those seeking a more private dining experience, there is a room available for groups of 6 to 8 people. The owner has put great effort into decorating the interior beautifully and warmly, creating a vintage café vibe.
The menu includes various gomtang options, such as dumpling gomtang, sprout gomtang, and dogani-tang. There are also reservation-only dishes like nurungji chicken and medicinal herb chicken. The baeksuk dishes require advance booking due to their lengthy preparation time.
I visited alone and ordered the dumpling gomtang. Even as a solo diner, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and neatness of the side dishes served!
Especially noteworthy was the kimchi pancake, which was served as a complimentary dish rather than something I had to order separately. It was large, freshly fried, and deliciously crispy.
The basic side dishes included fernbrake, bean sprouts, fish cake, and kimchi, all incredibly fresh and tasty, giving me the feeling of enjoying a home-cooked meal. I am very grateful to the owner for providing such thoughtful and fresh side dishes.
The dumpling gomtang arrived quickly after I ordered. Given the already impressive quality of the side dishes, I had no doubt that the gomtang would be delicious as well. The clear, pure broth was not greasy and had a light, comforting flavor.
The brisket in the gomtang was tender and perfectly complemented the broth, making it truly enjoyable.
By adding 2,000 won to the basic gomtang menu, you can enjoy the dumpling gomtang. If you love dumplings, I highly recommend this option. The warm, large dumplings infused with bone broth were a perfect match with the rice and side dishes.
Normally, I don't finish all the broth, but the rich flavor of the bone broth at Bukchon Gomtang compelled me to finish it all. Thanks to the freshness of the side dishes, the meal was even more enjoyable, and the owner's kindness made the experience even better. I highly recommend visiting this place at least once.
