Celebrating Multicultural Families: A Traditional Korean First Birthday Party

Hello from Sinan County!
On June 26, Sinan County hosted the '2026 Multicultural Family First Birthday Party' at the Sinan Family Center.
This event was organized to support the healthy growth and happy future of multicultural family children.
In collaboration with the National Heritage Promotion Agency, the event aimed to provide cultural experiences for multicultural families who have relatively fewer opportunities to enjoy cultural activities.
Two Vietnamese multicultural families residing in Sinan County, with children aged 10 to 18 months, participated in the celebration.
The event was more than just a birthday celebration; it was a special opportunity to experience Korea's traditional first birthday culture.
Activities included traditional birthday tables, hanbok experiences, commemorative photo sessions, and the execution of traditional birthday party customs.
All processes required for the birthday celebration were conducted with the support of the National Heritage Promotion Agency, allowing families to celebrate their child's first birthday without any burden.
The highlight of the event was the traditional 'Doljabi' ceremony, where families expressed their warm wishes for the health and happiness of their children.
The joyful atmosphere filled with laughter and applause created unforgettable memories for everyone involved, and parents were deeply moved to celebrate their child's first birthday in such a special way.
One immigrant woman expressed her gratitude, saying, "I was at a loss on how to prepare for my child's first birthday in Korea, but I was very happy to experience a traditional birthday party. It became a precious gift that my family will remember for a lifetime."
The National Heritage Promotion Agency hopes that this event will allow multicultural families to naturally experience the value and significance of Korean traditional culture.
They plan to continue expanding cultural opportunities for regions and classes with low cultural accessibility.
Sinan County also looks forward to celebrating children's first birthdays as a community, allowing multicultural families to feel the warm interest and support of their neighbors.
The county will continue to promote various support and cultural programs for multicultural families to thrive together in the community, aiming to create a happy community for all.
