I recently visited Susungdae, where the 36th Geochang International Theater Festival is taking place.

With the slogan 'Free immersion, sweet imagination', this festival features 50 groups from 8 countries, presenting a total of 78 diverse outdoor performances.
During the day, you can enjoy water activities in a cool valley, and at night, watch plays surrounded by beautiful nature. It's a representative summer festival of Geochang.

Closing Ceremony and Performance: On August 9 (Sun) at 20:00 at Susungdae Turtle Theater, an awards ceremony for the competition works and a musical gala concert will be held.

The opening ceremony, closing performance, fringe, and competition performances are free to watch, while some official performances are ticketed.

As I entered the festival grounds, banners welcoming the performances of the day greeted me.
Before the opening ceremony officially began, the audience was already packed! Over 1,000 people, including Geochang County Mayor Lee Hong-ki, Congressman Shin Sung-beom, and Chairperson of Geochang County Council Pyo Joo-sook, gathered to fill the outdoor theater.
It was impressive to see the audience sitting together, eagerly waiting for the stage against the beautiful nature backdrop.
The long-awaited opening ceremony has finally begun! The first pre-show performance featured Korean traditional dance and tap dance, receiving a warm applause from the audience.
The opening performance 'The Dream of the Elderly' captivated the audience, as veteran actors delivered immersive performances, evoking laughter and deep concentration.
As the performance ended, a spontaneous standing ovation erupted from the audience, who expressed their gratitude with enthusiastic applause, while the actors responded with bright smiles.
The passionate applause and cheers created a special atmosphere on that summer night at Susungdae, making the opening ceremony of the Geochang International Theater Festival a memorable experience.
The festival continues until August 9 at Susungdae, offering high-quality domestic and international theater performances, as well as a water festival and flea market, making it a perfect place to create special summer memories with family, friends, or loved ones.
