Music Flowing Through Myeoncheon Fortress, Enjoyed Together with Residents
‘2026 Dangjin Busker Festival’
Hello, I am Jeong Subin, a social media supporter for Dangjin City.
On Friday, October 9, 2026, I visited the area around Myeoncheon Fortress where the ‘2026 Dangjin Busker Festival’ is taking place.
During the day, I wandered around the village, exploring the festival grounds.
Walking through Myeoncheon and encountering music was a wonderful way to enjoy the village.
As I explored the area, I found that familiar places take on new meanings depending on the events held there.
What is usually just a path becomes a venue for performances, and spaces that are merely for passing through turn into places we want to linger.
I focused on how the scenery of Myeoncheon Fortress harmonizes with street performances.
This festival is organized by Live Continent and supported by the Korea Creative Content Agency.
According to the organizers, performances by 54 buskers from across the country are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on five stages around Myeoncheon Fortress.
The performance venues include the March 10th Movement Memorial, Jojeong-gwan, Myeoncheon Warehouse, South Gate Fortress, and Jangcheong.
The arrangement of stages in various locations throughout the village was quite eye-catching.
While one can enjoy performances in one place, it’s also possible to explore multiple venues during the festival.
The journey to find performances naturally leads to discovering more about Myeoncheon.
I also wandered around the area during the day to observe the event.
Instead of just documenting one stage, I wanted to capture how performance venues are situated within the village and how they connect with the surrounding scenery.
Photos that capture both the performers and the broader environment can tell different stories.
During the day, I was able to appreciate both the landscape around the stages and the village itself.
As I walked around the performance locations, I began to see Myeoncheon as a space for cultural events.
Experiencing music in historical spaces adds a unique dimension to this coverage.
The theme of this festival is ‘Rolling Stone.’
It expresses the life of buskers who share their stories through music while traversing various streets, aiming to sustain the foundation of busking activities alongside the local community.
This nonprofit festival encourages buskers to share their lives and activities while exploring sustainable cultural ecosystems.
Understanding the theme made me reflect more on the significance of this gathering.
Musicians from different places come together in one village to share their music.
For musicians, it’s an opportunity to meet new audiences and venues, while the community gets to experience diverse music up close.
Busking is a culture where everyday spaces meet performances.
Listening to music while walking or exploring nearby performances is part of the experience.
The time spent moving between performances becomes a unified experience, making the festival’s structure engaging.
Each person's way of enjoying music may differ; some may seek out performances by their favorite artists, while others may discover new music.
While one can follow predetermined tastes, the joy of discovering new music is an experience to expect at such festivals.
Especially when considering the location of Myeoncheon Fortress, the festival's charm expands.
Even the same music can evoke different memories depending on the space in which it is heard.
If the path walked on the day of the performance is remembered alongside the songs, the local landscape will linger in memory.
This is why I wanted to capture the scenery of Myeoncheon along with performance photos.
Close-up photos of performers convey musical moments, while photos that include the surrounding space tell the story of the festival held in Myeoncheon.
I believe it’s important to document these two perspectives.
The village serves as both the backdrop for the performances and the living space of its residents.
Familiar places for locals may be landscapes newly encountered by visitors.
People looking at the same space from different perspectives can find meaning in regional cultural events.
For those visiting Myeoncheon for the first time, performances can serve as a gateway to exploring various village locations.
Even for frequent visitors, cultural events can provide new experiences.
The joy of discovering different aspects within familiarity is one reason to attend local festivals.
Enjoying culture in the community doesn’t have to be a grand affair.
It can start with taking an interest in performances nearby and making time to visit.
Just knowing that such opportunities exist close to daily life can enrich the time spent in the community.
This festival also features the slogan ‘Busking Is Work!’
The organizers aim to highlight the labor value of buskers’ performances and emphasize the importance of an environment where musicians can continue to thrive.
It was also introduced as an event that continues the spirit of the past ‘Bountiful Feast’ in Haemi, where residents and musicians shared meals and music.
Behind every song that an audience encounters lies practice and preparation time.
Thinking about the music heard at the performance site naturally leads to interest in the process leading up to the stage.
When the enjoyment of music is paired with respect for musicians’ activities, the local performance culture can flourish even more.
It’s important to create spaces for performances, attract audiences, and continue the cycle toward future gatherings.
If a single event allows musicians and the community to get to know each other, the significance of the festival will grow.
Through the planning intention of this event, I reflected on such possibilities.
As someone who documents the community, I am interested in observing such encounters.
In addition to introducing what events were held, I feel it’s necessary to explore how these events utilize local spaces and what experiences they offer to people.
This time, I documented the village where the music festival took place during the day.
In the process of moving to find performance venues, I could re-examine the spaces of Myeoncheon.
I realized that the time spent exploring the village and enjoying cultural events can naturally connect.
Meeting today’s music in historical spaces holds significance.
It adds the time of people living in the present to old places.
I would like to continue documenting how local spaces are utilized for various activities, creating new memories.
A day enriched with music at Myeoncheon Fortress, this busker festival added the experience of encountering performances to the joy of visiting Myeoncheon.
I was glad to walk around the village, observe the spaces, and reflect on the intersection of music and the community.
I hope cultural events that bring together residents, musicians, and visitors continue to thrive across various spaces in Dangjin.
As the opportunities for enjoying culture nearby expand, there will be more chances to rediscover the community we live in.
Thank you for reading about the ‘2026 Dangjin Busker Festival’ that I explored during the day.
I will continue to document the diverse cultural scenes in Dangjin and the stories embedded within them.
