Did you know that there is a hidden space at Bongeunsa Temple, which thousands of visitors come to every day?
It's the Suwolgwan, the temple stay facility!
Generally, Suwolgwan is accessible only to temple stay participants. However, we have heard the voices of those who are curious about it while walking around Bongeunsa but cannot enter due to the limited availability of the 1-night, 2-day temple stay program.
As a result, we are gradually extending the opening hours of Suwolgwan!
Especially since Bongeunsa is a temple that welcomes many foreign visitors, we are working hard to ensure that they can experience Buddhist culture at Suwolgwan at any time.
Today, I would like to introduce several spaces, including the newly created Suwolgwan garden!
We have transformed the previously cement-floored courtyard of Suwolgwan into a serene Zen garden. You can meditate while walking along the circular stepping stones and enjoy the traditional garden's pine trees and rocks while sitting on the porch.
Notably, the tiger sculpture of a mother and child created at the front symbolizes 'Bongeunsa with Family' and was specially made for this purpose.
The largest space in Suwolgwan, the Daebang, houses a Buddha statue in the center, with artwork by artist Seong Yeong-rok displayed behind it. This space is designed for relaxation and meditation, complemented by tranquil lighting.
Another highlight is the Suwolgwan multi-purpose room, one of the hottest spots at Bongeunsa these days. It is a space where you can enjoy tea in a cool hanok building while spending time with good people.
In this way, Suwolgwan is almost ready to welcome you!
