The beautiful autumn light spreading over the lake

Gongneun Lake Trail in Paju

With fresh and clear weather,

autumn is the perfect season for walking.

The ever-changing natural scenery is stunning,

and the slightly chilly weather enhances the joy of walking.

If you are considering a light walking course with autumn foliage,

how about the Gongneun Lake Trail?

In October, Gongneun Lake showcased tranquil landscapes and

the beautiful reflections of autumn leaves.

Location:

Jangok-ri, Jori-eup, Paju

Opening Hours:

Open year-round

Parking:

Available at Gongneun Lake National Tourist Site

Gongneun Lake is an artificial reservoir created in 1966 for flood prevention and agricultural water supply.

It has a total capacity of 600,000 tons and spans 50 hectares.

With the promotion of waterfront tourism development,

a deck trail was established, and night lighting was installed, allowing for evening strolls.

Nearby, you can find Paju Samneung and Gongneun Tourist Campsite,

along with large cafes that connect history and nature.

Surrounding fields in Jangok-ri are also picturesque.

From spring to autumn, rice grows,

and in autumn, golden fields are often seen.

During my visit in mid-October,

the fields were empty after the autumn harvest.

The Gongneun Lake Trail is about 2.5km around the water.

Starting from a road adjacent to a one-lane road,

it features a flat walking path where deck and dirt trails intersect.

In deeper areas,

the deck road connects over the water.

The trail was developed in two phases,

becoming a resting place for locals and a tourist attraction in Paju.

The walking path begins at the foot of the mountain, diagonally across from the Gongneun Tourist Campsite,

with forest roads and deck paths running parallel.

As you walk, the scenery changes constantly,

with mountains, fields, and villages blending together.

The diverse landscapes made for an engaging walk.

The trail starting from the one-lane road bordering farmland

crosses a footbridge and passes two rest areas,

leading to the now-vanished Haniland.

The trail spans 1.1km, and with the completion of the second phase in June,

the entire path is now connected.

The deck and dirt paths intersect, starting from the footbridge to the lakeside,

with a long deck road extending along the water.

This section allows for a walk over the water.

At the heart photo zone,

everyone can pause to enjoy a photo opportunity,

while enjoying the tranquil scenery along the water.

Except for the occasional passerby,

it often becomes a moment of solitude with nature.

As the sun sets, the Gongneun Lake Trail

creates stunning reflections with the footbridge in the background,

allowing you to enjoy the path of autumn leaves.

The autumn foliage that began in mid-October is expected to peak

from late October to early November.

Starting from the water's edge to the mountain ridge,

the colors gradually change.

The reflections in Gongneun Lake capture the clear autumn sky,

creating two skies, while the water's edge is adorned

with low reeds and autumn leaves.

There are also reeds blooming along the way.

The contrast of the blue autumn sky with the yellow and red foliage

creates a more vibrant scene.

Sculptures reminiscent of stars and the moon have been installed,

becoming a second photo zone.

Whenever there is a photo zone, there are also benches,

inviting you to take a moment to rest.

The lakeside path is lined with dense trees forming a tunnel,

occasionally extending to the water's edge, offering beautiful views.

It was the best of nature created by water and mountains.

Passing by the nostalgic Haniland, which I often visited with my children,

I crossed the bridge once more,

leading back to the starting point.

Gongneun Lake is also home to many ducks.

'Where is home?' the ducks seem to wonder.

Groups of ducks are busy moving around the water's edge and the center of the lake.

As I approached Gongneun National Camping Site,

the beautiful night lighting came into view.

Gongneun Lake offers about an hour of healing and relaxation,

making it ideal for a light walk.

The scenery of water and forest is beautiful,

and the deck road provides a comfortable stroll.

If you want to escape the busy routine for a moment

and feel the leisure of autumn,

why not take a walk along the Gongneun Lake Trail?
