Ulsan Station: A Gateway to the City
Ulsan Station, located in Ulju-gun, is a stop for both KTX and SRT trains.
It connects to major cities such as Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu, and Busan, playing an essential role for busy modern individuals.
The title 'The History of the Crane Embracing the Whale' seems to be linked to the deep-rooted folklore of the crane, known as Hakseong. While the whale has become more famous now, its connection to the story remains significant.
The station itself is quite large and well-equipped with various amenities, representing Ulsan Metropolitan City.
It features a designated nursing room and numerous lockers for passenger convenience. Next to the ticket counter, there are several self-service kiosks available.
Nowadays, most people book their tickets through smartphone apps, resulting in minimal waiting times. If a ticket needs to be issued, it can be done quickly.
I observed many people using Ulsan Station, especially since February is expected to attract more visitors due to the long holidays.
On the first floor, there is a café and a convenience store, along with two restaurants for quick meals. Additionally, there is a bakery café on the second floor.
There are also stores like Ediya Coffee and Dunkin' Donuts, along with several vending machines. Interestingly, there aren’t many standout dining options, so bringing food along might be a good idea.
The train boarding area and exit can get crowded as many passengers gather there just before departure times.
When you exit, the bus stop is conveniently located right in front of the station. Buses operate in two main directions: downtown and Unyang, so be sure to check your route before boarding.
If the distance isn’t too far, taking a taxi is also an option. There are usually plenty of taxis waiting in line, ensuring convenience.
The Ulsan Station parking lot operates autonomously. The basic parking fee is 1,000 won for the first 30 minutes, with an additional 300 won for every 10 minutes thereafter. The maximum daily fee is 13,000 won, while parking at Lot B is slightly cheaper at 6,000 won per day.
Since the parking lot is not very large compared to the number of users, it may be more convenient to utilize public transportation to access the station.
A large whale model has been installed in front of the station to emphasize the city's identity as the 'Whale City.' The Jangsaengpo Whale Cultural District, themed around whales, is a well-known attraction in Ulsan, and I highly recommend visiting it.
