The Joy of the Jangsaengpo Hydrangea Festival

June marks the arrival of the hydrangea season in Ulsan. This year, the Jangsaengpo Hydrangea Festival will be held once again, showcasing the stunning beauty of colorful hydrangeas.
From June 19 to June 28, 2026, the 5th Jangsaengpo Hydrangea Festival will take place, and I had the chance to explore the venue in advance.
The festival is not just about admiring flowers; it has grown larger each year and offers a variety of experiences. In addition to the hydrangea garden, there are booths for hands-on activities, food markets, flea markets, and performance programs, making it a popular family outing destination.
As many tourists are expected to visit this year, let me introduce you to the Jangsaengpo Hydrangea Festival site.
Due to the festival, parking at the entrance of the Whale Culture Village will not be available. Visitors are encouraged to use the parking lots at the Jangsaengpo Whale Museum or the Whale Culture Special Zone for more convenient parking.
During the festival, the parking lot at the Jangsaengpo Whale Museum will be open for free, allowing visitors to enjoy their time without worrying about parking. Please check the parking locations in advance for a smoother experience.
For those coming via Ulsan Taehwagang Station, shuttle buses will operate during the festival, running between the station and the front of the Jangsaengpo Whale Museum every weekend starting at 10 AM, every 30 minutes. This makes it easier for public transport users to visit the festival without parking concerns.
Upon parking at the Whale Culture Special Zone, you can walk up to the festival area, where you’ll find a flea market selling colorful hats and clothing, as well as a free experience booth for making initial keychains with children.
Various food trucks are also available to satisfy your hunger while enjoying the festival, with delightful aromas wafting throughout the event area.
While it's lovely to stroll along the hydrangea paths, if you want to enjoy the festival in a unique way, I recommend taking a ride on the monorail. From the monorail, you can see both the Whale Culture Village and the hydrangea garden from above, offering a different perspective of the hydrangea clusters.
Another must-try attraction in Jangsaengpo is the Wales Cart, which opened on June 5. It has quickly become a popular experience for visitors, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful hydrangeas while feeling the thrill of racing through the air.
As I moved towards the Whale Square, the hydrangea spectacle unfolded. The fully bloomed hydrangeas filled the square, making it feel like stepping into a flower garden.
With their vibrant colors of blue, purple, pink, and white, the hydrangeas captivated everyone. No matter where you pointed your camera, there was a beautiful scene, turning every spot into a photo zone.
Even a week before the festival, the area was bustling with flea markets and food stalls, giving a festive feeling. Instant photo printing and acrylic frame creation services were available, perfect for capturing memorable moments.
Families and couples leisurely walked among the hydrangeas, taking photos. The blooming hydrangeas were beautiful up close and created a stunning view from afar, enhancing the early summer atmosphere.
This area also features a hidden photo zone with the Ulsan Bridge in the background. The beautiful blue angel flowers growing beside the stairs added a unique charm, attracting many visitors to stop and take pictures.
However, during the daytime, the sun can be quite strong, making it feel hotter. To enjoy the festival comfortably, it's advisable to bring a hat or umbrella and stay hydrated.
Recently opened, the Whale Sleep is a remodeled naval officer's residence that serves as a new lodging option for tourists visiting Jangsaengpo. Accommodating up to four people per night, it’s perfect for families or friends looking for an affordable stay.
In the flower garden created in front of the Whale Playground, lavender is gradually fading, while purple verbena fills the space, creating a beautiful landscape. Unlike typical lavender viewing, this location allows you to enjoy the beauty of the purple flower field even after the lavender has faded.
If you visit the hydrangea festival, be sure to explore the Whale Culture Village as well. This area recreates the old appearance of Jangsaengpo, providing a glimpse into life during the whaling boom.
The retro-themed streets and various exhibition spaces make it a popular spot for photography. After enjoying the hydrangeas, a leisurely stroll through the village feels like a time travel experience.
The 5th Jangsaengpo Hydrangea Festival will not only showcase beautiful flowers but also a variety of performances and events, promising a rich festival experience.
From the opening performance marking the festival’s start to a stunning hydrangea fireworks show, street music concerts, nostalgic 7080 hydrangea blues, and romantic candlelight concerts, a diverse range of performances awaits.
During the day, enjoy the vibrant hydrangeas, and in the evening, indulge in heartfelt performances, creating special early summer memories.
The Whale Culture Village, where the hydrangeas bloom, serves as the festival's main stage, but throughout the festival, various experiences, performances, food, and events will be available across Jangsaengpo, ensuring plenty of activities to fill your day.
Whether you enjoy walking among the beautiful hydrangeas, riding the monorail, trying out the Wales Cart, or savoring delicious food, you’re sure to have a satisfying time with family, friends, or loved ones.
The festival, filled with the beauty of hydrangeas and diverse attractions unique to Jangsaengpo, will help you create unforgettable early summer memories with your loved ones.
