Did you know that in just an hour's drive from the Seoul metropolitan area, you can see Cornelian cherry blossoms, azaleas, cherry blossoms, and rhododendrons? From late March to late April, if you time your visits right, you can experience a different floral spectacle each week.

To be honest, I used to think, "Aren't spring flowers only in Yeouido?" But after visiting Yeouido for the third time, I started to get bored. There were too many people, and parking was a hassle. So, starting last year, I explored various spots in the metropolitan area and found many hidden gems.

In this article, I will share the places I've personally visited, organized by the blooming period, along with tips for parking. By the end, you'll have a great plan for your spring outings.

Spring flower day trips in the metropolitan area, compiled honestly from my experiences.

Spring Flowers in the Metropolitan Area — Timing of Blooming

Surprisingly, not many people know that spring flowers in the metropolitan area bloom over a longer period than expected. According to a prediction map released by the Korea Forest Service in February 2026, the full bloom of Cornelian cherry trees is expected on March 26, azaleas on April 3, and cherry blossoms on April 7. Adding rhododendrons, the blooming period extends until the end of April.

The key point is this: if you focus only on cherry blossoms, you'll only have about ten days, but if you broaden your scope to include different flowers, you can enjoy more than a month of varied destinations. The sequence goes: Cornelian cherry first, followed by azaleas, cherry blossoms at their peak, and finally rhododendrons.

In 2026, the predicted blooming date for cherry blossoms in Seoul is around April 3, with full bloom expected around April 10. In Suwon, blooming is anticipated in early April, with full bloom in the second week. According to weather experts, this may be 2-3 days earlier than average.

So, if you see Cornelian cherries in Icheon in the last week of March, azaleas in Bucheon in the first week of April, cherry blossoms in Seoul in the second week, and rhododendrons in Gunpo in the fourth week, you'll have four completely different spring trips. All of this is possible within the metropolitan area, so missing out would be a real shame.

Icheon Baeksa Cornelian Cherry Village offers a stunning view, with yellow Cornelian cherry blossoms covering the entire village.

Located just an hour's drive from Seoul, Icheon Baeksa Village is the first destination of the spring flower season. Since the Cornelian cherries bloom about two weeks before cherry blossoms, visiting at the end of March is perfect for those longing for spring.

The village is special due to its history. During the reign of King Jungjong in the Joseon Dynasty, scholars fleeing from political turmoil began planting Cornelian cherry trees, and now the entire village is covered in yellow. Photos taken here evoke disbelief, and seeing it in person is even more impressive.

The walking course starts at Yukgoejeong and follows the path inside the village. With Cornelian cherry trees creating a tunnel on both sides, it's impossible not to take photos while walking. The entire loop takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and the gentle slope makes it suitable for families.

The free entry is a big plus, and there is ample parking. However, during the festival period (usually the last week of March to the first week of April), it gets quite crowded from Saturday mornings, so it's recommended to visit on weekdays or early Saturday mornings. Ending the day with Icheon rice meal makes for a perfect outing.
