Exploring Wonyang Cherry Blossom Road

Hello!
Last weekend, on the 12th, I visited the Wonyang Cherry Blossom Road.
In celebration of the 2026 Gochang Visit Year, from April 10th to 12th, a cherry blossom festival was held along the Wongsan Cherry Blossom Road (from Gangcheon to Geumgwang to Eoin).
Driving along the roads near the Wonyang-myeon office is quite pleasant.
The Wongsan Cherry Blossom Road was planted over 20 years ago with rewards from the Saemaul Movement for the future of Wonyang-myeon, stretching from Gangcheon Village to Eoin Village.
Since it was the last day of the event and I arrived in the afternoon, I regrettably missed the morning festivities.
This location offers a unique spring atmosphere along with cultural performances.
There are also photo zones set up for visitors, making it a more enjoyable experience.
Curious about the end of the cherry blossom road, I took a slow drive to Eoin Village.
The scenery outside the car window made the journey itself quite delightful.
Upon arriving in the village, I found charming photo zones, so I stopped the car to explore.
The atmosphere was perfect for capturing memories with the cherry blossoms.
Additionally, if you turn your gaze to the left, you can see Bongwusan Mountain, which adds to the serene natural scenery.
This quiet village, combined with the spring landscape, is a lovely place to spend some time.
Bongwusan, also known as Gomalthulsan, is said to be a significant geomantic site according to Gochang's feng shui beliefs.
According to legend, there was a spot where a phoenix gazed at the clouds, promising great academic success and noble positions for three generations, followed by seven generations of prime ministers.
The Bongwusan Beacon Tower, one of the five beacon towers from the Joseon Dynasty, is located at the summit of Bongwusan Mountain (901m above sea level), corresponding with the Geumgwi Beacon Tower to the south and the Jirei Gusan Beacon Tower to the north.
As I traveled along the road, I noticed a stone marker indicating 'Wongsan Cherry Blossom Road.'
This sign felt like a clear indication that I was indeed on the cherry blossom path.
While this area is famous for its cherry blossoms, it is also home to the Kim Myeon General Park, which commemorates General Kim Myeon, a hero of the Imjin War.
In this tranquil atmosphere, one can also feel the historical significance of the space.
Behind the park stands a monument honoring General Kim Myeon, a national hero during the Imjin War.
It is a meaningful place to reflect on our history while enjoying the beautiful cherry blossom scenery.
On my way back, I encountered the Gangcheon Dam near Geumgang Village.
The wide water views are rare in the mountainous areas, making it a moment of lightness just to pause and enjoy the sight.
While cherry blossoms are starting to fall in other places, the Wonyang Cherry Blossom Road is still in full bloom.
If you want to experience spring, now is the perfect time.
This weekend, if you want to feel spring a little closer, I recommend taking a light drive to Wonyang Cherry Blossom Road!
