Spring Blooms at Okjeongho Bungeoseom

The weather has clearly turned to spring, although there is still a noticeable temperature difference between day and night.
As the temperature rises, spring flowers have begun to bloom, and the Okjeongho Bungeoseom Ecological Park in Imsil is no exception. This area will host a cherry blossom festival in April, and I’d like to share the latest news about the spring flowers in the park as we approach the festival.
In front of the swaying bridge, the fully bloomed spring flowers welcome visitors, signaling the upcoming Okjeongho Cherry Blossom Festival on April 11-12.
Before heading to Bungeoseom, I read about the island itself. Okjeongho is a large artificial lake created to provide agricultural water from the Seomjin River, and Bungeoseom was formed during this process. The island is named for its shape, which resembles a carp, and it has become a beautiful ecological park attracting many tourists.
There is an entrance fee for Bungeoseom: 4,000 KRW for adults and 2,000 KRW for children (students/elementary, middle, high school). You can purchase tickets at the ticket booth and submit them upon entry.
For visitors with dogs, you must register at the management office and fill out necessary documents. While crossing the swaying bridge, you are required to use a pet stroller or cage. Only small dogs under 10 kg are allowed, and you must bring an ID when filling out the paperwork.
The swaying bridge leading to Bungeoseom is 420 meters long and is the only bridge connecting to the island. The main tower is designed to resemble a carp, and there’s an observation deck overlooking Okjeongho.
From the bridge, the view of Okjeongho shows mountains still clad in gray, but as spring deepens, the trees will soon don their green attire.
Upon crossing the bridge and arriving at the Bungeoseom Ecological Park, you are greeted by beautiful spring flowers. The rich scent of hyacinths fills the air, and daffodils display their bright faces.
Every walking path is filled with spring flowers, including tulips, pansies, anemones, and geraniums. While not in large clusters on trees, these modest blooms are even more precious.
The elevated Bungeojeong pavilion is a great spot to sit and rest while enjoying the view of Bungeoseom.
Along the path to the peony garden, there are rows of Cornus flowers. Their bright yellow blooms catch the eye from afar, and I was drawn to this path by their vibrant color.
The Cornus flowers bloom closely on the branches, and many bees buzz around them.
The Bungeoseom Ecological Park is quite spacious, with a total walking distance of 3.3 km if you take a full loop. Each path features beautiful photo zones, making it perfect for capturing memories with the spring flowers.
Magnolias have also started to bloom. By the time the cherry blossoms are out, the magnolias will likely show their white flowers as well.
This exotic-looking building is the Imsil Cheese House, where you can purchase Imsil cheese along with coffee and beverages.
There are plenty of resting spots around the Cheese House, making it a great place to relax with a drink.
At the photo zones featuring spring flowers, many trees are still bare, but colorful flowers are heralding the arrival of spring.
There’s also a smaller version of the swaying bridge at a photo zone, and the cute carp accompanying it are delightful. Each photo zone has chairs, allowing you to sit and comfortably take pictures.
In the pine tree area, there’s a forest library. The path leading to the library is starting to see daffodils sprouting, which will bloom soon.
The Bungeoseom Ecological Park features a playground perfect for children, making it an excellent family travel destination. After a leisurely stroll through the park filled with spring flowers, I found the walking paths pleasant and the surrounding scenery breathtaking. The park is spacious, with many resting areas and clear signage.
Experience the fragrance of spring at the Bungeoseom Ecological Park.
