Exploring the Whale Culture Zone in Jangsaengpo
The Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Zone, known for its vibrant cultural space, offers a passenger ferry that departs from Jangsaengpo Port to explore the Ulsan coastline.
The ferry service features a light daytime coastal tour, a whale-watching expedition, and an evening coastal tour with fireworks, allowing visitors to choose an experience that suits their preferences.
Today, I will introduce how to book the ferry, the onboard facilities, and the details of the nighttime coastal tour I attended.
The Whale Sea Tour ferry departs from a boarding area next to the main Jangsaengpo Whale Museum, where tickets can also be purchased on-site if seats are available.
Online reservations can be made through the Whale Sea Tour website, and it is essential to bring identification for boarding.
The nighttime coastal tour operates for 1 hour and 30 minutes every Friday and Saturday, adjusting its schedule based on sunset times, so be sure to check the website when planning your visit.
Groups of over 150 can reserve a private charter, and the total capacity of the ferry is 347 passengers.
Ticket prices are 15,000 won for adults, 7,000 won for children, and free for children under 36 months. If you qualify for any fare exemptions or reductions, please ensure you bring the necessary documents.
As boarding time approaches, passengers line up right in front of the boarding area, and identification is required, so make sure to have it with you. Since entry is on a first-come, first-served basis, those seeking comfortable seating might want to arrive early.
The ferry has three floors: the first floor features restrooms, buffet facilities, and a stage; the second floor has restrooms, a café, and a lounge; and the third floor offers a snack bar and outdoor seating.
The first floor has comfortable sofa and hall seating, with the sofa seats providing the best views of the sea. Passengers can purchase snacks and enjoy the performances from the stage, making it a recommended spot to settle in.
The second floor also has ample seating, and it was surprising to see how many people boarded. There are displays about whales in the corridor, which are worth reading during your visit.
The third floor, where you can enjoy the scenery while crossing the sea, is particularly delightful in the cool weather. The restrooms on each floor are surprisingly clean and equipped with hygiene bags for those concerned about seasickness.
While I didn't experience seasickness, it might be wise for sensitive individuals to bring medication just in case.
The snack bar offers a variety of quick snacks like ramen, chips, and coffee, providing plenty of choices. At the back of the boat, I noticed many people throwing shrimp chips to the seagulls, creating an entertaining scene.
Enjoying cup noodles while crossing the sea is a delightful and romantic experience I highly recommend.
During the ferry ride, performances take place on the first-floor stage, allowing children to play and adults to enjoy the entertainment together.
Moving towards the back of the boat provides a view of the beautiful nightscape of Ulsan Bridge, allowing for a romantic evening by the sea.
The highlight of the nighttime coastal tour is undoubtedly the fireworks display. The best viewing spot is at the front of the second floor, so it’s advisable to move there before it starts. I wasn't able to get there in time and had to peek from the third floor, but I still captured beautiful moments.
Crossing the sea on the ferry while enjoying the stunning scenery and various activities made for a memorable experience. I highly recommend visiting the Whale Sea Tour ferry while the weather is warm.
