Revival of Ulsan's Night Market: A Culinary Adventure

The once-closed large night market has returned as the 'Ulsan Large Night Youth Market'.
Since its reopening in May 2023, it has become a vibrant hotspot in the evenings in Ulsan's Jung-gu district.
With street food on my mind, I decided to visit the night market on a weekday evening.
The Ulsan Large Night Youth Market is located in the alley of the Jungang Traditional Market, featuring an arcade that shields visitors from the weather, making it easy to stroll around. Its direct connection to a public parking lot enhances accessibility.
Visitors can also enjoy commercial facilities like supermarkets within the traditional market and explore the nearby Youth Street, making it a perfect evening stroll route.
The market operates from Wednesday to Sunday, open from 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM, so keep in mind that it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Currently, around 11 food booths offer a variety of menus. Near the entrance, there’s a display of food items and prices from each booth, allowing visitors to plan their choices ahead of time.
While it's fun to eat standing up, there are plenty of tables and chairs available for a relaxed dining experience. Additionally, a resting area on the third floor of the Okgyo Public Parking allows visitors to enjoy their meals comfortably, regardless of the weather.
Walking through the night market alley, you can see the food being prepared at each booth, adding to the excitement of the visit.
Many booths are run by young entrepreneurs, offering trendy and creative menus, including unique options like Turkish kebabs sold by foreigners, broadening the selection.
The sizzling sounds of food cooking on the grill and the delicious aromas wafting through the air entice many passersby to stop and choose their meals.
As I watched visitors enjoy their food, I couldn’t resist trying a dish myself.
The Ulsan Large Night Youth Market features popular street food items such as sushi, egg bread, skewers, cube steak, chicken gizzards, spiral potatoes, tteokgalbi, pork belly rolls, Turkish kebabs, smoked duck barbecue, and dumplings, making it easy for everyone to find something they like.
Most items are prepared on the spot, ensuring freshness, and card payments are accepted for convenience.
I tried an egg bread filled with bacon and cheese, freshly baked and warm, making it a perfect snack. The prices of most menu items are reasonable, allowing for sharing and trying multiple dishes.
In the alleys surrounding the night market, there are various shops open late, from popular hotteok stalls to chicken specialty stores, offering plenty of sights and experiences beyond just food.
If you’re looking to enjoy a light evening stroll while satisfying your hunger in Ulsan Jung-gu, I highly recommend visiting the lively Ulsan Large Night Youth Market.
