PlayX4: A Celebration of Gaming Culture

What does 'gaming' mean to you?
From flash games played in computer labs as children
to digital games enjoyed with friends,
games have always been a source of joyful memories in our daily lives.
Now, gaming has evolved beyond a simple hobby
to become a massive cultural phenomenon.
This year, the largest convergence gaming show in the metropolitan area,
PlayX4, was held amidst the enthusiastic interest of gaming fans.
On Saturday, May 23, during the four-day festival,
I visited the bustling venue at KINTEX in Ilsan.
Why does Gyeonggi Province host PlayX4?
The event, organized by Gyeonggi Province, aims to provide
opportunities for outstanding small businesses and indie developers
to promote themselves and expand overseas,
while offering residents a healthy cultural space for everyone to enjoy.
Gyeonggi Province accounts for more than half of South Korea's gaming industry revenue,
making it a true 'mecca of the gaming industry.'
By successfully combining business and public festivals each year through PlayX4,
it leads the trends in South Korea's gaming industry.
On Saturday, KINTEX was packed with visitors!
The venue was filled with game fans and families,
creating a true 'sea of people.'
This year’s PlayX4 featured everything from PC and mobile games
to consoles, arcades, VR/XR, and board games.
I’ve summarized the key highlights from the lively Saturday event!
Exciting main stage and side events
The main stage on Saturday was a continuous showcase of legends.
Popular game voice actor talk shows and competitions
captivated fans throughout the day.
Various side events included exhibitions for university clubs
and closed testing for developers,
highlighting Gyeonggi's commitment to fostering the esports ecosystem.
Interactive booths with prizes!
I participated in various gaming events at the booths.
From famous game brands to innovative games
developed by students, there was a wide range of experiences.
After focusing on clearing games,
I received cute merchandise and gifts,
which made me realize why this event is so beloved by fans.
Arcade zone with digital games and nostalgic classics!
The K-Arcade Game Pavilion was a delightful surprise.
It featured not only the latest digital games
but also classic arcade machines and claw machines.
It was a space for all generations to enjoy together.
Cosplay festival with characters brought to life
The venue was filled with vibrant cosplayers.
They perfectly recreated both popular game characters
and familiar cartoon figures,
transforming the exhibition into a massive photo studio.
Enjoying sights and tastes at the festival
With so much to see and experience,
it was easy to get tired after a long visit.
Fortunately, there was a pleasant food court and rest area
where I could recharge with delicious food.
PlayX4 is not just an exhibition,
but a space that offers opportunities for everyone.
It provides gamers with new joys,
indie developers with a chance to leap forward,
and residents with a boost of vitality in their daily lives.
If you missed this year’s event,
look forward to an even more spectacular festival next year!
