Exploring Ulsan: A Visit to the HD Art Center

Places to Visit in Ulsan with Kids
HD Art Center's Special Exhibition "Painting Our Happiness"
Art is closer than you think!
Hello,
This is Jeongwon Choi from the Ulsan Metropolitan City Blog Reporter Team.
I realized that art isn't as grand as one might think. Taking the time to absorb and feel each piece is what truly matters.
I visited a place that showcases children's artwork, which anyone who enjoys drawing would love. It's the special exhibition "Painting Our Happiness" at the HD Art Center.
This exhibition expressed children's feelings and thoughts about happiness through their paintings.
It brought back memories of family trips filled with laughter, the pure happiness captured through children's eyes, and scenes from cherished moments.
The exhibition space at HD Art Center hosts various displays, but this one resonated with joy and emotion like no other, so I wanted to share it.
During the weekend, I visited the 4th HD Hyundai Family Special Exhibition.
The underground parking is spacious, extending to three levels, making it easy to visit. Parking is free for the first 30 minutes, then 500 won for each additional 30 minutes.
Brochures are available at the entrance, allowing visitors to understand the artworks better while exploring. Admission is free, making it a stress-free visit.
A message for visitors at the entrance caught my attention: "Our happiness exists in ordinary days." This phrase resonated deeply with me.
It's easy to mistake happiness for extraordinary events, but this message is essential in our lives.
The artworks varied widely, including ceramics, photography, calligraphy, sculpture, and crafts.
Many of the photos at the entrance depicted families. It made me reflect on how much joy a parent's smile brings to a child.
Memories of joyful moments between siblings and family pajama parties were illustrated, showcasing everyday happiness.
A standout was a unique photo exhibition; the children's innocent smiles made me smile too.
There were also paintings depicting the happiness brought by warm sunlight in daily life, which felt beautiful and comforting.
A painting capturing the texture of waves using mixed materials was particularly striking. It was fascinating how various materials enhanced both the image and its texture.
There was also a collaborative piece created by new employees during an onboarding program, accompanied by a video showing the artists at work.
As I walked through the long corridor, I encountered a second exhibition space, which felt entirely different from the first.
Understanding the meaning behind each piece made them more visible. Though created in diverse ways, all the artworks conveyed a single theme: happiness.
Especially the sculptures and carvings were of high quality, giving a strong sense of artistic value.
One piece represented my feelings while observing a ginkgo tree, and another elevated written words into a work of art.
The ginkgo tree piece, created using bas-relief techniques, created an illusion of viewing a real tree.
I was genuinely impressed by the quality and artistry of the exhibition.
After viewing the artworks, my son expressed his joy, saying he found them amazing and well-done. The presence of children's artwork made it easy for him to appreciate the pieces.
My family and I enjoy exhibitions and art shows, and our visit to this one at the art center was a fun and meaningful experience.
After our visit, my son mentioned how much he enjoyed spending time with us, reinforcing the happiness we shared.
If you're looking for a place to visit with your child on weekends or rainy days, I highly recommend checking out the exhibitions at the HD Art Center.
Thank you for reading!
