Exploring the Whale Culture Warehouse in Ulsan

Hello! I am Byun Jin-seok, a reporter for the Ulsan Nuri blog.
If you are planning a trip to Ulsan, there is a must-visit spot: the "Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Warehouse!"
This is not just a simple tourist attraction; it is a multi-cultural space filled with exhibitions, performances, a book cafe, and a museum all under one roof.
Today, I will share everything I discovered about the Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Warehouse!
Address: 110 Jangsaengpo Whale Road, Nam-gu, Ulsan
Parking: Available
Operated by: Whale Culture Foundation
What is the Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Warehouse? From a Freezer to a Cultural Space
The Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Warehouse is a cultural hub that was transformed from a former freezing warehouse. Located in the heart of the Whale Culture Special Zone in Jangsaengpo, Nam-gu, Ulsan, it is a prime example of industrial heritage being reborn as a cultural space.
The Whale Culture Special Zone is the only center for whale culture in South Korea, offering a complex tourist destination where visitors can experience history and culture related to whales. The Whale Culture Warehouse serves as the core of this special zone, with each floor filled with unique content, making it a place where you can easily spend half a day.
On the first floor, there are outdoor spaces like the Youth Square and Harmony Square (food court), where you can enjoy various foods while taking in the ocean view of Jangsaengpo.
Ulsan History Exhibition Hall: Discovering the Birth of the Industrial Capital
Another reason why the Whale Culture Warehouse is special is the "Ulsan Industrial History Exhibition Hall" located on the second floor.
This exhibition hall commemorates the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ulsan Industrial Center in 1962 and showcases the history and development of Ulsan's industry.
There is an interactive space where you can experience the moment of the groundbreaking explosion, allowing you to feel the atmosphere of that time vividly.
Exhibits include city planning maps and economic development plans from 1962 onward, showcasing the transformation of Ulsan, along with miniature models of significant monuments and industrial towers.
Currently, a special exhibition titled "QUEENS COLLECTION British Royal Exhibition" is ongoing to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Jangsaengpo Cultural Warehouse. This is a rare opportunity to view the splendid collection of the British royal family right in Ulsan.
On the third floor, the media art exhibition "Vivid Fantasy" offers an immersive experience with vibrant colors and visuals.
For parents seeking a fun outing with their children on a hot summer day, I confidently recommend the media art exhibition "Vivid Fantasy." Kids can engage with the interactive displays, making it an ideal spot for energetic children.
Lastly, the Jiganseoga Book Cafe, located on the 6th floor, offers a unique atmosphere where you can read while enjoying views of the sea and harbor. It is a space that reflects the industrial identity of Ulsan, curated with books on the theme of work.
With its stunning views and cozy ambiance, the Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Warehouse is a perfect destination to experience the history, culture, nature, and healing of Ulsan.
Weekend trips to Ulsan are highly recommended!
