Hello.
Today, I would like to introduce 'Sinam Confucian Academy,' a precious cultural heritage where the deep Confucian culture and academic traces of Hamann live on.
This site not only faces 'Sinam Park' but also features 'Sinam Village,' which has been revitalized through the Ara Rural Village Regeneration Project, making it a great travel destination.
Have you heard about the 'Ara Rural Village Regeneration Project' that Hamann-gun has been carrying out? This project has been ongoing since 2013 as a village revitalization initiative.
Residents who know their neighborhood best are directly involved in uncovering hidden treasures and potential resources, beautifying the rural landscape. The goal of the 'Ara Rural Village Regeneration Project' is to gather the residents' efforts to create a unique and livable rural village.
During my visit to Sinam Village, which participated in the project in 2018, I found a refreshing stream flowing in front of the village. As I walked further into the village, I was welcomed by exercise facilities and cozy pavilions under a large tree.
The rooftops of the houses were painted in cheerful colors like sky blue, orange, gray, and red, which was a delight to the eyes. Beautiful flowers and poems were inscribed on the walls, all well-maintained and looking freshly done.
After a pleasant stroll through the village, let's take a look at 'Sinam Park.' Next to Sinam Confucian Academy, there is a large stone marker indicating that this is a park.
Under the lush green grass and cool shade of trees, there are tables set up for relaxing, perfect for a picnic. Additionally, pink and red flowers are beautifully planted throughout, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
Sinam Park features a spacious plaza and stage suitable for village festivals and events. There is even a lovely water facility under a large shade that provides relief from the hot sun.
If you visit in the summer, the cool water springs up, making it a great place to escape the heat.
Sinam Confucian Academy, established in 1780 during the late Joseon Dynasty, is a historic site dedicated to the scholar 'An Gwan' from Hamann, who upheld high integrity throughout his life.
Although it faced the pain of being abolished during the 1868 decree by Heungseon Daewongun, it was restored in 1993 thanks to generous support from local scholars and donations from descendants.
Inside Sinam Confucian Academy, you will find beautiful Hanok buildings. The first place to notice is 'Siamjae,' the original academy building.
This structure features a traditional wooden style with a central hall and ondol rooms. Notably, it houses 93 wooden blocks inscribed with the works of the late Goryeo scholar 'An Chuk,' designated as a cultural heritage of Gyeongsangnam-do.
My visit to Sinam Confucian Academy was a valuable time to deeply understand the history of Hamann. The well-organized Sinam Park, through the Ara Rural Village Regeneration Project, provided a delightful experience, creating a rich travel itinerary.
If you are planning a historical trip to Hamann, I recommend visiting this serene place where you can learn about history and enjoy a quiet rest.
