Exploring Pohang's Must-Visit Landmark: Hwanho Park Space Walk
When traveling to Pohang, a unique landmark that you absolutely cannot miss is the Hwanho Park Space Walk.
Personally, I would rank it as the top tourist attraction in Pohang, offering a special experience and unforgettable photos.
Here’s a recap of my thrilling visit to the Space Walk along with some handy tips!
1. Introduction to Space Walk and Accessibility
Hwanho Park Space Walk is the largest experiential sculpture in Korea, boasting a unique visual that has earned it the title of one of the '19 Most Beautiful Stairs in the World.'
Its location is also advantageous, being close to major attractions like Jukdo Market and the Pohang Intercity Bus Terminal, making it easy for travelers to visit on foot.
The park features a botanical garden and the Pohang City Museum of Art, making it a perfect spot for dates or family outings.
2. Parking and Directions (Tip!)
Given the park's vastness, choosing a parking lot is important. The 'Hwanho Park Second Parking Lot' is the closest to the Space Walk!
Due to its popularity, it often fills up quickly during weekends and holidays, so I highly recommend visiting before 10 AM for a more relaxed experience.
It takes about a 10-minute walk from the parking lot to the sculpture.
While there is a main road, taking the forest path allows for a light 5-minute trek where you can enjoy the tranquility of nature.
3. Usage Information (Operating Hours and Entry Conditions)
Summer (April - October): Weekdays 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM, Weekends 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Winter (November - March): Weekdays 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Weekends 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Regular Closure: First Monday of each month. Be sure to check the seasonal operating hours and closure days before your visit.
Entry Fee: Free
Entry Restrictions: Children under 110 cm in height are restricted for safety reasons.

4. A First-Hand Experience
From the moment I spotted the unique shape of the Space Walk peeking through the trees, I was in awe. It felt like I was in a foreign land!
Even in May, it gets quite hot during the day due to the lack of shade. I recommend visiting around sunset to avoid the heat and enjoy a beautiful view!
Climbing the stairs was more thrilling than I expected. The stair width is only enough for 1-2 people, so be courteous to others when moving.
The facility is surprisingly well-maintained, especially considering it's free to enter. Other visitors were equally impressed!
Gripping the handrail tightly made my palms sweaty from the tension, but the breathtaking view of Pohang from the top became an invaluable memory.
