Let's embark on a journey to explore new places and their charms!
Our first travel destination is the millennium city of Gyeongju.
In spring, Gyeongju can be summed up in one phrase: "Lush Greenery".
Today's highlight is to enjoy the scenery slowly by bike!
1. Traveling from Busan to Gyeongju
I departed from the Busan Central Bus Terminal and traveled for just over an hour.
2. Renting a Bicycle
As soon as I arrived in Gyeongju, I rented a bicycle.
The attractions in Gyeongju are close to each other, so one bike is enough to explore!
3. Cheomseongdae
The first stop is Cheomseongdae.
Cheomseongdae, built in the 7th century during the reign of Queen Seondeok of Silla, is the oldest astronomical observatory in Asia.
Standing at about 9.4 meters tall and constructed from 362 stones, this number represents the days of the lunar year.
The structure symbolizes the sky (round shape) and the earth (square base), which is quite impressive.
Isnโt it fascinating that it embodies the ancient people's view of the universe?
In spring, the area around Cheomseongdae is adorned with colorful tulips, creating a picturesque scene.
4. Hwanglidangil
After cycling around Cheomseongdae, I headed to Hwanglidangil.
This street features cafes, restaurants, and shops converted from traditional Hanok houses, giving off a unique vibe.
And of course, you must try the famous 10-won bread!
It's crispy on the outside with gooey cheese inside, a delightful combination that lingers in your mind.
5. Lunch
Feeling a bit hungry, I stopped for lunch at a well-known Kalguksu (noodle) restaurant in Gyeongju!
The broth was light and warm, making it even more delicious.
6. Gyeongju National Museum
After lunch, I made my way to the Gyeongju National Museum.
This museum showcases the culture and artifacts of the Silla era and has much more to see than I expected.
The highlight for me was the Silla Golden Crown from the Cheonmachong tomb.
Its intricate details reflect the culture and craftsmanship of that time.
Another impressive piece was the face-patterned roof tile, known as the 'Silla Smile', discovered at the site of the Yeongmyosa temple.
Despite some damage, the soft smile and round face beautifully convey the simplicity and humanity of Silla.
7. Why is Biking Special?
The best moments of this trip were during the travel time itself.
Cycling slowly allowed me to appreciate the green trees lining the roads, the gentle breeze, warm sunlight, and people strolling leisurely, all blending into a beautiful scene.
8. Gyeongju Day Trip Tips
โ I highly recommend renting a bike.
โ Take landscape photos of Cheomseongdae from a distance.
โ Opt for light and warm meals for lunch.

Gyeongju is a city where you can have a special experience in just one day.
