Experience the Refreshing Jeonju Gamak Festival This Summer

This summer heat, let's enjoy fresh beer produced on the same day!
Experience the freshest beer, delicious snacks from Jeonju's local bars, and exciting performances! I recently attended the 2026 Jeonju Gamak Festival, the coolest way to enjoy summer in Jeonju.
When you think of a representative festival in Jeonju, what comes to mind first? Many might think of the Bibimbap Festival or the Jeonju Cultural Heritage Night in Hanok Village, but in my opinion, the festival that truly heats up Jeonju in the summer is the Jeonju Gamak Festival.
First, 'Gamak' is short for 'store beer,' referring to the unique drinking culture of enjoying beer along with simple snacks like dried fish at small neighborhood shops in Jeonju. The Jeonju Gamak Festival has developed this local culture into a festival, now attracting many tourists and establishing itself as a representative summer festival of Jeonju.
What makes the Jeonju Gamak Festival even more special is that it is the only festival in the country where you can taste beer produced on the same day at the Hite Jinro Jeonju brewery. With the slogan 'Drink beer made today,' it offers a fresh experience of draft beer that is hard to find elsewhere, drawing many visitors each year for this unique opportunity.
The festival will take place from August 6 to August 8, 2026, at the Jeonbuk National University Complex Sports Hall. If you want to experience Jeonju's representative summer festival, I highly recommend visiting.
Before entering the venue, it’s a good idea to check the layout map to locate key facilities such as the beer pond, performance area, Gamak booths, and food zones.
Only adults can enter the Jeonju Gamak Festival, and all visitors must present ID upon entry. Even if accompanied by a guardian, minors will be restricted, so please check before visiting.
Additionally, there is an event where entry is free if you bring your own tumbler, so keep that in mind.
To ensure many citizens can enjoy the festival, ample tables were set up throughout the venue. While it may get crowded at times, you shouldn’t worry about finding a seat.
The biggest charm of the Jeonju Gamak Festival is tasting 'beer made today.' You can enjoy fresh beer produced on-site, creating a special experience unique to this festival.
The beer pond, a symbol of the festival, serves as a storage area to provide countless beers in the freshest and coolest condition during the festival, making it a representative location of the Jeonju Gamak Festival.
Next to the beer pond, there is a 'beer sales booth' for purchasing beer.
While refreshing beer is essential, the Gamak Festival is not complete without snacks. Originating from the unique food culture of enjoying simple snacks like dried fish with beer at local shops, tasting various snacks is one of the festival's great pleasures.
Many famous local bars participated in the festival, showcasing their signature dishes. From pork cutlets and rolled eggs to cold noodles, grilled pollack, and spicy chicken feet, a variety of snacks that pair well with beer were available for you to enjoy according to your taste.
Additionally, photo zones were set up throughout the festival to help you create lasting memories.
The main stage featured various performances, including Gamak masters and invited singers, creating a joyful atmosphere where many citizens could be seen enjoying the music.
After enjoying the festival, please use the recycling stations and reusable cup return bins located toward the exit.
Before summer ends, why not visit the Jeonju Gamak Festival, the representative festival of Jeonju and the best way to enjoy summer? This is my second visit this year, and despite the heat, I have my reasons for returning!
If you plan to visit, be sure to bring your ID and use public transportation for a safe and enjoyable time.
