This summer, I spent a day in Jaribat village in Yangbuk, Gyeongju.
It wasn't a famous tourist spot or a crowded beach.
But that made it a summer I would remember for a long time.
Travel began as soon as we passed the Gyeongju tollgate.
The road to Jaribat village was a perfect driving course.
Fluffy clouds drifted slowly across the blue sky.
Green landscapes stretched out on either side of the road.
And in the distance, the enormous silhouette of a wind turbine could be seen.
Just opening the window while driving allowed me to feel summer all around me.
The road leading up to Jaribat village was even more impressive.
As I climbed along the winding path, the only sounds were the wind and cicadas, creating a serene landscape.
It was a road that made me want to stop the car and take in the surroundings.
Every time I encounter such roads, I am reminded that travel is not about the destination, but the journey itself.
The destination of this trip was the studio of a photographer.
Upon entering, it felt like stepping into a small gallery.
The walls were adorned with photographs and artworks, blending seamlessly with the green scenery outside.
It was the perfect space to momentarily set aside the busy daily life.
For lunch, we enjoyed a hearty chicken soup, and sipped on fragrant coffee to relax.
As evening approached, we slowly wrapped up the day with a glass of wine.
And of course, the romantic touch of summer was added with barbecues sizzling on the grill.
Summer was perfectly captured in such a scene.
As the sun began to set and a cool breeze started to blow, we gathered around a safely prepared small campfire, sharing stories and losing track of time.
The crackling of the fire, the sounds of summer insects, and the distant starlight filled the air.
All complex thoughts faded away, leaving only the scenery before my eyes.
I realized that summer doesn't require grand travels; even a day like this is enough.
This was the quietest and most special day I encountered in Gyeongju.
When people think of Gyeongju, they often first think of Bulguksa Temple or Cheomseongdae.
However, through this trip, I discovered that Jaribat village has a different charm.
It may not be glamorous, but it has nature, wonderful people, delicious food, and leisurely time.
