Located in Dong-eup, Uichang-gu, Changwon, the Sweet Persimmon Theme Park is an eco-friendly agricultural theme park dedicated to the sweet persimmon.

Did you know that Changwon is not only the birthplace of sweet persimmons in South Korea but also the largest producer in the country?

As you enter the park, you'll be greeted by a tranquil rural landscape. Admission and parking are both free, making it a perfect spot for family outings or leisurely visits.

Next to the parking lot is the Sweet Persimmon Promotion Center, which features two floors dedicated to showcasing the historical significance and various information about Changwon's sweet persimmons. The center operates from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM during the summer and from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM in winter, closed every Monday.

On the first floor, you can see a 100-year-old sweet persimmon tree from Yeondong Village, which has been producing fruit for generations. This tree serves as evidence that sweet persimmons have been cultivated in Changwon for over a century.

Archaeological findings from the Changwon Dahori site in 1988 included persimmons, proving that the region has been a significant area for persimmon cultivation since ancient times.

The most widely cultivated variety in South Korea is 'Buyu,' known for its smooth, shiny orange skin. Other varieties like 'Idu' and 'Charang' are also on display.

In addition to the persimmon-related exhibits, you can find various merchandise featuring the cute character Dani, including keychains, notebooks, and tumblers.

The second floor also serves as an exhibition space, highlighting the national important agricultural heritage known as 'Dokmoe Persimmon Farming.' This farming method has allowed for the development of agriculture in hilly areas, making Changwon the world's top producer of sweet persimmons.

As you explore the Promotion Center, you'll learn that the sweet persimmons we enjoy today are the result of accumulated agricultural techniques and experiences over time. They are known for their health benefits, including detoxification and cardiovascular health.

Behind the Promotion Center, a spacious park allows children to play freely. On the day of my visit, many children from local daycares were enjoying mini sports events and picnics on the grass.

Walking further into the park, you'll encounter traditional houses that evoke nostalgic memories of rural life. While it may lack extravagant facilities, this simplicity adds to the park's charm.

The walking trails behind the park feature actual sweet persimmon trees, and during autumn, you can observe the ripe fruits up close. A viewpoint along the trail offers a stunning view of the park and the peaceful fields of Dong-eup.

This park is an ideal place to experience the tranquility of nature and the charm of rural life, making it a great spot for families and couples to relax and enjoy the changing seasons.
