Capturing the Perfect First Birthday Photos
서울특별시 종로구 북촌로11길 118

A detailed review of a first birthday photoshoot at Yeodamheon Bukchon, Korea’s largest hanok studio, including timing tips for a 10-month-old baby, concept selection, winter shooting concerns, and why this studio is ideal for calm and traditional doljanchi photography.
When Is the Best Time for First Birthday Photos?
As our baby’s first birthday approached, the first thing we thought about was taking birthday photos. At first, we assumed it would be fine to shoot just before the birthday, but we later learned that it’s better to do it when the baby can stand steadily.
That’s why we decided to schedule the shoot at 10 months old. This timing turned out to be ideal, allowing natural movements and expressions without forcing poses.
Yeodamheon Bukchon – Studio Information
Name: Yeodamheon Bukchon
Address: 20, Bukchon-ro 8-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul
Type: Hanok photography studio
Parking: Private parking available
Located inside Bukchon Hanok Village, Yeodamheon is positioned away from crowded alleys, making it safe and stress-free when moving with a baby.
Most importantly, Yeodamheon has a spacious parking lot exclusively for customers, which makes a huge difference for parents carrying strollers and baby bags.
Winter Photoshoot Concerns
Seeing the gloomy winter sky, I couldn’t help but worry about cold outdoor shooting conditions. Moms who give birth in winter often share this concern.
However, Yeodamheon manages winter shoots thoughtfully. The process is slow and flexible, allowing the baby time to adjust to the space before shooting begins.
Yeodam Simple Special Package
Yeodamheon is known as the largest hanok studio in Korea, and we chose the Yeodam Simple Special package, which includes baby hanbok.
✔ 3 concept shoots
✔ Approximately 100–300 photos
✔ Baby solo shoot product
✔ Raw photos provided
✔ Baby hanbok included
✔ Solo cut with birthday table
✔ One 11×14 inch acrylic frame included
Duration: 30–40 minutes (depending on the baby’s condition)
Hanbok & Props Selection
From winter hanbok collections to outfits for parents, the variety and quality of hanboks and props were impressive. Yeodamheon clearly invests heavily in the main outfit, ensuring refined colors and textures suitable for traditional photography.
Concept 1 – Peek-a-Boo Scene
This is Yeodamheon’s most iconic concept and the one most frequently recommended by other parents.
The baby peeks out from behind a hanok gate, naturally capturing expressions without forced smiles. Practicing peek-a-boo at home beforehand helps a lot.
During the shoot, we simply played with the baby, which resulted in a wide range of genuine expressions.
Concept 2 – First Birthday Commemorative Background
This concept uses a clean black background, clearly conveying the meaning of a first birthday without excessive decoration.
Since the baby needs to sit still and face the camera, small treats are helpful. Bite-sized snacks work best to avoid mess or distractions.
Concept 3 – Mini Gayageum Scene
This concept truly shows why Yeodamheon is famous for traditional first birthday photography. The mini gayageum is baby-friendly, and the composition pairs perfectly with the hanok background.
Final Thoughts
Yeodamheon Bukchon’s Yeodam Simple Special package is especially suitable for babies around 10 months old. The shoot progresses at the baby’s pace, in a warm and calm environment.
The photographer and staff were incredibly kind and patient, making the entire experience comfortable for both baby and parents.
If you want to beautifully preserve your baby’s expressions and the serene atmosphere of a traditional first birthday, Yeodamheon Hanok Studio is highly recommended.
