The cool breeze makes my heart flutter; it’s autumn.

On such beautiful days, while a casual walk is nice,

I often think of enjoying leisure in an atmospheric indoor space.

While walking in the park and soaking in the autumn ambiance,

I visited the Pohang Museum of Art for some artistic inspiration.

Pohang Museum of Art

Location: 10 Hwanho Park-gil, Buk-gu, Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do

Hours: Winter (November to March) 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM / Summer (April to October) 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM (Entry until 30 minutes before closing)

Closed: Every Monday / New Year's Day / Chuseok Day / Exhibition preparation period (announced separately)

Currently, the nearest parking lot to the museum is under construction,

so it’s better to use the first and second parking lots due to limited space.

Parking is free, and there’s no admission fee, making it a great autumn date course in Pohang.

The current exhibition at the Pohang Museum of Art is titled

< RE: Figure: Changing Shapes, Expanding Sculpture >

It runs from September 22, 2026, to January 3, 2027,

giving you plenty of time to explore it early next year.

Upon entering the museum, the high ceiling and

the large artwork of this exhibition catch your eye.

This exhibition showcases how the long-standing artistic theme of 'form'

intersects with contemporary artists' perspectives and unique techniques,

demonstrating its transformation and expansion.

The first artwork I explored was by artist Yoo Bong-sang.

He captures the landscapes he encounters in photographs,

then drives numerous nails into them to create new scenes.

The solid and cold nails add depth to the landscape,

creating a delicate image of nature.

Next was the work of Song Jin-soo.

It felt like viewing a lively drawing made by bending thick wires.

The wire sculptures filled the space,

changing in outline and density based on your viewing angle,

making it enjoyable to explore the space.

Then, I saw works by artist So Hyun.

These pieces transform and combine familiar images from fairy tales,

creating unique forms where imagination intersects.

They tackle heavy real-world issues with whimsical imagination and humor,

revealing the hidden sides of reality that are often overlooked.

Through shapes derived from plants,

artist Kim Seon-hyeok poses philosophical questions about our existence.

His work expresses the growth of life towards light in barren environments,

though it took some effort to interpret his pieces.

The final artwork, by Lee Yong-jae, has a captivating reversal,

where the perception changes dramatically from afar to up close.

Depending on your position and distance, the artwork transforms,

making the viewer's perspective crucial.

Each artist approaches metal differently,

and the stories embedded in their shapes are diverse,

ensuring there was never a dull moment.

It was a time to view familiar subjects from a new perspective.

I recommend visiting the Pohang Museum of Art this weekend

to personally experience the lingering effects of art and the essence of autumn!
