Every day, the autumn leaves change,
and the mountains unfold beautifully.
I enjoyed a 2-night, 3-day autumn camping trip
at the Cheongnyangsan Water Source Campground in Bonghwa, Gyeongbuk.
This campground, renovated in October 2025,
impressed me with its well-maintained facilities.
At first, I didn’t realize it was in Gyeongbuk,
as the name includes 'water source.'
This site is a collaboration between Suwon City and Bonghwa County,
which signed a friendship city agreement in 2024.
Bonghwa County provides the campground operations for free for 10 years,
while Suwon City maintains the facilities.
It’s meaningful to see urban and rural areas sharing resources,
and I had a more satisfying experience than I anticipated.
The campground allows you to feel the energy of Cheongnyangsan up close.
I stayed at the gravel campground located in the lower yard.
Setting up the tent and looking around,
I was greeted by mountains on both sides,
creating a refreshing view.
I visited just as the leaves were beginning to change color.
While there was still plenty of green,
the leaves were noticeably darker the next morning.
It was enjoyable to witness the changing autumn scenery up close.
The biggest charm of this place was the ability to stay
while feeling the mountains and fresh air of Cheongnyangsan.
It’s an ideal spot to escape a busy routine
and relax in nature.
The spacious gravel sites and convenient camping facilities
made for a great experience.
The gravel sites offered ample space for organizing tents and camping gear,
and parking was conveniently available right next to the site.
Each site came with a grill and table with chairs,
which was great for meals and convenient for placing items.
The gravel sites accommodate RVs, caravans, and car camping,
and there are also deck camping and glamping facilities available.
However, while grills are provided,
you need to bring your own charcoal and grill grate.
Please note that firewood is not allowed,
so you cannot enjoy a fire pit.
The cleanliness of the shared facilities was particularly satisfying.
There was a communal sink next to the gravel campground,
making it easy to wash dishes,
with both cold and hot water available.
A microwave was also installed above the sink,
allowing me to easily heat up meals.
There were recycling bins and separate trash areas nearby.
The path to the restrooms featured interesting floor art,
creating a fun atmosphere,
and there was a playground and resting area in front of the restrooms,
making it a great spot to stay with kids.
The communal restrooms and showers were exceptionally clean.
Sometimes, using shared facilities while camping can be inconvenient,
but this place was well-maintained,
making it easy to use without worry.
The showers had lockers and hairdryers available,
and it was satisfying to shower twice a day while camping.
On the first day, I was busy setting up the tent,
but I was able to spend quality time with my child.
We participated in a woodworking program offered at the campground.
I had made a reservation for a music box pencil case workshop (7,000 won),
which lasted about 40 minutes starting at 3 PM.
While setting up the tent,
it was useful to have an activity to keep my child engaged.
After finishing the tent setup,
we prepared dinner while looking at Cheongnyangsan.
The pork belly party enjoyed with the mountains in front of us
was an unmissable moment of camping.
Eating dinner in nature felt extra special.
As the sun set and the lights in the campground turned on,
the atmosphere became cozy.
The scenery transformed into something different from the daytime,
allowing us to enjoy the evening at leisure.
Please note that the lights turn off at 10 PM.
The next morning,
I woke up to find the autumn leaves even more vibrant than the day before.
Watching the changing autumn scenery in just one day
made me feel the shifts in nature.
In the morning, I also witnessed the yoga and meditation therapy
taking place at Cheongnyangsan.
It was impressive to see that time was set aside for relaxation
through yoga and singing bowl meditation.
Lying in a hammock and looking at the sky and Cheongnyangsan
felt like the entire landscape was entering my heart.
It was a morning where just gazing at the mountains
and lying there was enough.
On the second day,
I visited Dosan Seowon,
which is about a 20-minute drive from the campground,
as the World Heritage Festival was taking place.
Thanks to the passionate explanations from the docent,
I learned more about Dosan Seowon, a UNESCO World Heritage site,
and the scholar Toegye Yi Hwang.
There were also resting areas available,
making it enjoyable to relax after exploring history and culture.
Camping in nature and exploring cultural attractions nearby
made for a fulfilling itinerary.
During this trip to Bonghwa,
I experienced the beauty of nature while watching the changing autumn leaves
and enjoyed a comfortable stay in well-maintained facilities.
If you want to enjoy the scenery of Cheongnyangsan up close
or engage in activities with your child while camping,
this is a great autumn travel destination.
Spending autumn days feeling the energy of Cheongnyangsan,
I believe this time spent away from busy life
will remain a cherished memory.
