A Visit to Taehwagang Observatory: A Must-See Attraction in Ulsan

Hello, I'm Jung Jae-in, a reporter for Ulsan City Hall.
Today, I'm going to give you a comprehensive overview of the Taehwagang Observatory, a famous landmark in Nam-gu, Ulsan, including my personal experiences.
The Taehwagang Observatory is located at 1 Beonji, Mugeo-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan (223 Namsan-ro). It's a remodeled facility that used to be a water intake plant and tower, transformed into a four-story observatory with a height of approximately 28 meters.
• 1963: Taehwa Water Intake Plant established → Function ceased after 1995
• Remodeled by Ulsan City and the Korea Water Resources Corporation into the current observatory
• 1st floor: Exhibition hall and rest area
3rd floor: Revolving cafe
4th floor: Observation deck and promotion hall
• Operating hours are generally from 10 AM to 7 PM, with free admission.
The 1st floor exhibition hall tells the story of how the Taehwagang River, once a polluted river, was reborn as an ecological river, and explains that it is a space where birds and vegetation thrive.
Just sitting on the 1st floor offers such a great view.
If there are no seats in the revolving cafe, don't get frustrated waiting. It's really nice to relax slowly on the 1st floor, feel the river breeze, and take a break.
It's actually more comfortable because it's quieter, and if you go with children, the free atmosphere of the 1st floor is better.
The 3rd floor cafe has a structure where part of the floor and seats slowly rotate, allowing you to enjoy a 360° view while enjoying your drink.
I went around 3 PM.
The window seats inside the cafe were already full.
Because of the rotating structure, people seemed to stay longer, wanting to see the view all the way around once they sat down.
Revolving cafes are usually found in high-end restaurants or hotels, so the prices are high and it's not easy to go, right?
But the biggest charm of the Taehwagang Observatory revolving cafe is that it's truly 'a revolving cafe that anyone can come to easily'.
The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is good for tourists, families, and children to sit and relax, so I felt like, "Ah, there aren't many revolving cafes like this in the whole country."
And if they only open at night, the night view of Taehwagang National Garden is so famous, right?
If you watch the lights on the river and the bamboo forest lights while revolving, it will definitely be a 'Ulsan night view 맛집 (delicious place)'.
From the observatory, you can see the flowing river (Taehwagang), the city center unfolding behind it, and the natural scenery at a glance.
In particular, when viewed from the 4th-floor outdoor deck, the ecological river and garden scenery are captured in a sensational way.
The Taehwagang Observatory is worth a visit as a place to “go at least once” in Nam-gu, Ulsan.
I think it's suitable for a day trip with the family.
Of course, there may not be seats on weekends, but I think that's proof that it's a popular and attractive place.
I think I should visit a little earlier next time.
Thank you for reading this far.
