A Special Morning Run

Thursday morning, February 26, 2026
Today marks the last day of winter break for Teacher Park.
It's a different kind of time compared to summer vacation.
Kyung-eun loves to run, but she can't enjoy it as much as she'd like.
After running, she feels pain in her feet, calves, and legs,
waking up in the middle of the night tossing and turning.
Not knowing if it's due to swelling or something else, she even visited the hospital,
but there are still no clear answers.
I just feel upset watching her from the side.
Last night,
she said, “I want to run with you tomorrow.”
That single phrase made me wake up at 5:30 AM today.
Running with Kyung-eun, we share many stories.
The energy we exchange during that time
becomes a strong bond that connects us even when we are apart.
At 5:30 AM,
we rise together to start the day.
Leaving the house, we go from Banpo Station to the Express Bus Terminal Station, and finally to Banpo Han River Park.
The dawn spreads like a painting in the distance.
Tranquil light envelops us.
Given the circumstances,
we hurry toward the Jamwon Han River before Kyung-eun's heart starts to race more.
I know.
Even if I can't fully understand, I can feel it.
It's in Kyung-eun's eyes.
We maintain a pace of 6:30 to 7:00.
For me, it's a comfortable jog at a heart rate of 125,
but Kyung-eun keeps hers at 150.
We are different.
No two people can be exactly alike.
But there is a similarity in our essence.
Like colors that, while not the same, blend together beautifully.
Just like the dawn we witnessed together today.
This is how our day began a little more special.
Although we ran at our own pace,
the fact that we were looking in the same direction made for a satisfying morning.
A day with a special person,
and a day that is never to be taken for granted.
Today, too, I begin my day with gratitude.
