A Relaxing Summer Journey in Pohang: Exploring Guryongpo and Homigot

A Relaxing Summer Journey in Pohang: Exploring Guryongpo and Homigot
(Photo taken on June 5, Friday)
Hello, I am Lee Seung-min from the Gyeongsangbuk-do SNS Reporter Team.
June is a wonderful time to enjoy travel with the cool sea breeze before the full onset of summer.
In this article, I would like to introduce my early summer travel route in Pohang!
From the emotive atmosphere of Guryongpo Japanese House Street
to the breathtaking sea views of Homigot,
I captured the perfect spots for a delightful drive and a leisurely walk.
On my way to Homigot, I first explored Guryongpo Japanese House Street.
Guryongpo Japanese House Street and Homigot are about a 13-minute drive apart, making them an ideal pair for a visit.
Guryongpo Japanese House Street is home to houses that were inhabited by Japanese during the colonial period,
offering a glimpse into the past and a unique emotional travel experience in Pohang.
It is particularly well-known as a filming location for the drama "When the Camellia Blooms," attracting many tourists.
The cool sea breeze of early summer made it a pleasant place to stroll.
The street features various shops, including accessory stores, cafes, snack bars, and bakeries.
The Camellia Cafe, known for its connection to the drama, is a popular photo spot.
As I explored the shops, I climbed the stairs to the upper area.
I took photos on the famous stone steps from the drama and enjoyed the calm views of the Pohang sea.
Above the Japanese House Street, there is also the Guryongpo Guamegi Culture Center.
If you enjoy guamegi, it would be a great place to visit!
Walking through Guryongpo Japanese House Street, I felt the atmosphere of a bygone era.
Reflecting on the past made me grateful for my leisurely life now.
The street is not very large, making it easy to explore, and I spent about an hour before heading to Homigot.
Homigot, famous for being a top sunrise spot in Pohang, is well-known to many!
Upon parking at Homigot, the first thing that caught my eye was the New Millennium Memorial Hall.
It’s a great space for families, featuring an observatory, a stone museum, a marine fossil museum, and a VR maze experience.
However, when I visited, it was temporarily closed for renovations from June 3 to July, so please check ahead if you plan to visit!
Near the Homigot parking area, there is also a free bike rental station.
I took some photos at the famous photo spot, 'Hands of Harmony.'
The plaza is spacious, making it great for biking or leisurely walks while enjoying the sea view.
There are many seafood restaurants nearby, so I recommend finding a good place to eat before your visit!
After dining nearby, I took a light stroll along the Homigot Coastal Trail.
I truly felt the relaxed atmosphere of Pohang's southern coast.
It offered a different charm compared to the vibrant atmosphere of northern Pohang,
and Guryongpo and Homigot felt reminiscent of the quiet coastal roads of Jeju Island.
If you're looking for a peaceful beach getaway without the crowds,
how about visiting Guryongpo Japanese House Street and Homigot this weekend?
