Jeonju Hanok Village Trail

A leisurely morning walk

Along the path where history and culture breathe together

Jeonju Hanok Village Trail (Sungil)

Jeonju Hanok Village Trail Walking Course

Jeonju Craft Exhibition Hall » Omokdae » Jeonju Hyanggyo » Hanbyeokdang » Hanbyeokgul » Okryu Mural Village

As spring approaches, many are planning trips to Jeonju, filled with spring flowers. Today, I would like to introduce the 'Sungil' at Jeonju Hanok Village, where you can enjoy a leisurely morning walk. Shall we embark on this tranquil morning stroll together?

This walk started at the Jeonju Craft Exhibition Hall. The course I took for my morning walk was part of the Jeonju Hanok Village Trail, allowing me to naturally encounter the main tourist attractions and the picturesque alleyways of the Hanok Village. For those who enjoy walking, this trail is highly recommended for a deeper experience of the Hanok Village.

The trail runs alongside the path leading up to Omokdae. Just a short walk along this path, you can find the Dangsan tree that watches over the village. Looking at this tree, which has stood for hundreds of years, I felt the deep history and tradition of the Hanok Village.

As I strolled slowly along the trail, I encountered cats playing with pine cones, adding a charming touch to my walk. Further along, I found a section displaying paintings of the Ten Scenic Views of Jeonju Hanok Village, enhancing the joy of walking as I appreciated the landscapes captured in art.

At the end of the path, I spotted shyly blooming plum blossoms, signaling the arrival of spring, filling the air with their gentle fragrance.

On my way to the next stop, Jeonju Hyanggyo, I saw the filming location of the drama 'Twenty-Five Twenty-One.' Seeing the house of the protagonist Kim Tae-ri, located on a hill as depicted in the drama, felt quite special, and the view of the Hanok Village from here was truly beautiful, perfect for a quick photo opportunity.

After passing Jeonju Hyanggyo, I continued toward Jeonju Cheondong-ro.

Walking along the trail by the stream, I noticed the yellow blooms of the forsythia following the plum blossoms. The sight of spring flowers blooming brightened my mood throughout the walk.

The trail is well marked with signs, making it easy to navigate even for first-time visitors.

As I passed under Hanbyeokgyo, Hanbyeokdang came into view. Hanbyeokdang is a pavilion built on the rocky cliffs of Mt. Seungam, known as one of the three great pavilions of Honam, where poets and scholars would gather to recite poetry and enjoy the scenery.

The view of Jeonjucheon from Hanbyeokdang is referred to as Hanbyeokcheongyeon and is considered one of the Eight Scenic Views of Jeonju, offering a truly peaceful sight.

Beyond Hanbyeokdang, the Jeonjucheon riverside ecological park unfolds. The long path along the stream is perfect for walking.

I originally planned to walk past the Chimmyeongjasan Fortress site to the trail's turnaround point, but as it was nearing my check-out time, I regrettably turned back toward the Hanok Village.

On the way back, instead of Hanbyeokdang, I passed through Hanbyeokgul. During the Japanese occupation, a railway was built to cut off the spirit of Hanbyeokdang, and Hanbyeokgul is the tunnel that was created at that time.

Despite its painful history, it has become known as a filming location for 'Twenty-Five Twenty-One,' attracting many visitors who learn about its history, making it a more meaningful place.

As I walked along the trail, I encountered Okryu Mural Village, where colorful murals and alley scenes create a different atmosphere from the Hanok Village. This area features cozy cafes and accommodations, making it a great spot to experience a different charm of Jeonju.

After passing through the mural village, I crossed the bridge back toward Omokdae. Omokdae, Jamang, and Okryu Mural Village are interconnected via Omokgyo, so I recommend exploring them together.

Omokdae is famous as the place where Yi Seong-gye celebrated his victory after defeating the Japanese army on his way back from Hwangsan, Unbong, Namwon.

From the pavilion, the panoramic view of Jeonju Hanok Village unfolds, making it a lovely spot to take a break while enjoying the refreshing breeze. If you want to appreciate the Hanok Village scenery in a relatively quiet atmosphere, Omokdae is a great choice.

After enjoying the view from Omokdae, I descended back toward the Craft Exhibition Hall, concluding my morning walk. The Jeonju Hanok Village Trail I walked today was a diverse course where you can encounter Hanok alleyways, historical spaces, and natural landscapes.

If you want to walk through the Hanok Village in the tranquil morning air, why not slowly follow the course I took?
