Hello! I am Byeon Jin-seok, a reporter for the Ulsan Nuri Blog.

Today, I am excited to share my experience visiting the "2026 Ulsan Onggi Festival" held in Okgosan Onggi Village, Onyang-eup, Uljin-gun, Ulsan.

This festival is a representative traditional cultural event of Ulsan that I eagerly anticipate every year.

This year, I visited with my family, and it certainly lived up to our expectations.

For those who couldn't attend, let's dive into a vivid review of the event!

Basic Information about the 2026 Ulsan Onggi Festival:

1. Dates: May 1 (Friday) to May 3 (Sunday), 2026

2. Venue: 36 Okgosan 3-gil, Onyang-eup, Uljin-gun, Ulsan

3. Organized by: Uljin Cultural Foundation

4. Sponsored by: Uljin-gun, Uljin County Council, Ulsan Metropolitan City, Ulsan City Council, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism

5. Official Website: www.onggi.or.kr

Okgosan Onggi Village is a living embodiment of traditional culture.

Located in Onyang-eup, Uljin-gun, Okgosan Onggi Village is known as the largest traditional Onggi pottery production area in Korea.

This village contributes significantly to the national Onggi production and can be regarded as a living museum.

Every alley is lined with various Onggi pottery, and witnessing artisans shaping clay up close was a "special experience" that is hard to find in everyday life.

It was a valuable time for both children and adults to directly experience traditional culture often seen only in textbooks!

The festival kicked off with a spectacular opening ceremony.

The opening day was filled with exciting events!

The festival commenced with the "Onggi Street Parade," filling the village with a joyful atmosphere.

As night fell, the highlight of the evening, the "Drone Show & Fireworks," illuminated the sky over Okgosan Onggi Village, creating a breathtaking spectacle!

Cheers and applause echoed, captivating both children and adults as they gazed at the sky.

The main performance, "Shoulders Covered in Clay," artistically portrayed the lives and craftsmanship of Onggi artisans, leaving a deep impression on the audience.

It was a time that prompted reflection on our traditions and craftsmanship beyond just a simple performance.

Food is as important as experiences!

This year's standout dish was the "Onggi Grilled Pork Belly," a signature food of the Ulsan Onggi Festival.

Grilled in Onggi pots, the pork belly had a unique flavor that complemented the festive atmosphere.

The food zone offered a variety of local dishes and market foods, making it a delight to explore.

Sitting down with family to enjoy the meals added another layer of enjoyment to the festival.

One of my favorite aspects of the festival was the "various experience programs."

With a total of 39 programs, including workshops, performances, exhibitions, and market activities, there was something for everyone, regardless of age or preference.

The "Eco-Friendly Onggi Experience" was available throughout the festival, allowing participants to mold clay and create their own works, which was incredibly enjoyable even for an adult like me.

In the city, opportunities to touch clay are rare, and the cool, soft texture was surprisingly therapeutic.

The "Onggi Adventure" was a fairy-tale-like tour exploring the Onggi village with the festival mascot, Onggi, which thrilled the children!

Completing stamp missions while exploring the village kept everyone engaged.

With diverse experience zones like Onggi Playground and Onggi Land, families with children were fully immersed in the activities.

The festival was rich with programs, exhibitions, and markets!

With six categories of content, including opening ceremonies, experiences, performances, exhibitions, and markets, there was more than enough to keep visitors entertained for three days.

The "exhibition space" showcased Onggi-related artworks, perfect for photos, while local artists' performances provided enjoyable breaks.

The market was filled with Onggi artworks, local specialties, and handmade crafts, making it hard not to spend money while browsing.

Overall, the 2026 Ulsan Onggi Festival was characterized by the opening drone show, 39 diverse experience programs, and the delightful Onggi pork belly.

I hope to enjoy a new Onggi festival next year!
