The 2026 Ulsan Industrial Festival kicked off with the theme 'AX Transformation, All In Ulsan'!
It took place from Thursday, October 8, to Sunday, October 11, at the Taehwa River National Garden in Nam-gu.
This year, the festival concluded with a spectacular turnout of visitors.
The opening ceremony featured a variety of experiences, from interactive booths to performances by invited artists.
The ceremony showcased a rich narrative that combined the 60-year history of Ulsan's industry with the millennium-long history of Cheoyong.
At the center of the expansive Nam-gu venue stood a large junk art robot, a signature feature of the Ulsan Industrial Festival, which served as a great photo spot. Each time I see this robot, it feels new and majestic.
The festival included the 'Ulsan U-Culture Festival,' where local university clubs actively participated, and booths offering diverse future experiences enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI) technology, allowing visitors to engage and explore until the evening.
From Thursday to Saturday, the booths were open from 10 AM to 8 PM, and on Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM, making it easy for visitors to drop by and enjoy the festivities.
In the Nam-gu area of the Taehwa River National Garden, five local companies operated special booths to connect with citizens. It was meaningful to see familiar businesses, and many people queued to participate in the experiences.
There was also a relaxation zone prepared for citizens to unwind during the festival. The phrase 'When Ulsan moves, Korea changes' echoed throughout the event, evoking a sense of pride among the Ulsan citizens.
While many families visited the experience booths, the food area was bustling with a diverse crowd, from young adults to parents, enjoying the offerings.
The food stalls provided a variety of meals, including local specialties from Gangwon-do, Jeolla-do, and Jeju-do, all at surprisingly affordable prices, allowing attendees to enjoy both the festival atmosphere and their meals.
Before the opening ceremony, I had a light dinner at one of the booths, which was freshly prepared and delicious, featuring a wide range of menu options. I appreciated the effort to minimize single-use containers for environmental reasons.
The opening ceremony began at 6:30 PM with two impressive drone shows. The performances highlighted the vibrant stage created by the people of Ulsan. The theme performance creatively depicted the values of acceptance, unity, and tolerance through a musical format, featuring 70 Ulsan citizens as performers.
The spectacular drone shows, with over a thousand drones illuminating the sky with stunning visuals, offered a second chance for those who missed the first show during the night.
Various invited artists, including bands and solo performers, filled the stage, providing an opportunity to enjoy performances from artists rarely seen.
The 2026 Ulsan Industrial Festival was a remarkable blend of industrial history and a glimpse into a future transformed by AI. With so much to see and enjoy, I eagerly anticipate next year's festival.
