2026 Gyeonggi Rice Gimbap Festival: A Celebration of Culture and Culinary Excellence

The 2026 Gyeonggi Rice Gimbap Festival was successfully held on the 13th at Hall B of the Suwon Convention Center.
This year's event, themed 'Gyeonggi Rice: The Future of K-Food Gimbap,' showcased the excellence of Gyeonggi rice and the diversity of gimbap culture.
The festival, now in its third year, aimed to promote the consumption of Gyeonggi rice and invigorate the gimbap industry.
From early morning, families and citizens flocked to the venue to taste various gimbap made with Gyeonggi rice, participate in hands-on experiences, and enjoy competitions featuring gimbap artisans from across the nation.
The main attraction was the National Gimbap Competition, where 89 teams from across the country participated, with 30 teams advancing to the finals to showcase their skills.
Participants presented gimbap that reflected their individuality and creativity, using Gyeonggi rice as their primary ingredient.
From traditional gimbap to fusion varieties incorporating local specialties, the intricate creations captivated the audience.
Visitors paused to take photos of the dishes, expressing admiration for their beauty, saying they looked more like art than food.
The small business section featured gimbap specialty shops selling their signature gimbap, allowing direct interaction with consumers.
The most important ingredient in gimbap is undoubtedly rice, and the quality of Gyeonggi rice is paramount.
At the festival, an exhibition showcased various Gyeonggi rice varieties, including Yeorihyang, Suchanmi, Jeongdami, and more, highlighting local characteristics.
Visitors had the rare opportunity to discover the differences in taste, aroma, and texture among different rice varieties.
The festival also featured hands-on cooking classes led by gimbap influencer Han Hye-ri from 'Sooki's Kitchen,' where participants created their own gimbap recipes.
The food booths were popular, offering a variety of gimbap made with Gyeonggi rice, with many visitors enjoying the delightful combination of gimbap and tteokbokki.
The Doremi Market showcased local agricultural products, featuring goods from 41 farms, including snacks and beverages made from Gyeonggi's agricultural products.
The festival highlighted the growing global interest in gimbap, with foreign visitors enjoying the dish and contributing to the rising status of K-Food.
Ultimately, the Gyeonggi Rice Gimbap Festival demonstrated the potential for local agriculture and culinary culture to thrive together.
