During our trip to the eastern part of Jeju, we visited a black pig restaurant called Heukdonjjul near Sungsan Ilchulbong. The staff grilled the meat for us from start to finish, making it a convenient dining experience. The spacious and pleasant environment made it enjoyable for both the kids and the parents, and of course, the taste of the meat was exceptional!
We enjoyed high-grade black pork, accompanied by clean side dishes, and a kimchi stew filled with fresh meat, along with a unique water noodle dish. Every item on the menu, both main and side dishes, was perfect.
As the weather was hot, we decided to skip climbing to the top of Sungsan Ilchulbong and instead explored the surrounding trails and the Umeokgae Coast. We searched for a nearby meat restaurant since we were traveling with parents and a child, so we couldn't just go anywhere. We spent quite a bit of time looking for a clean and delicious place!
After much searching, we settled on Heukdonjjul, which is so popular that it operates an annex! The main building and the annex face each other, so you can choose where to enter. I initially went to the annex but found it crowded, so I moved to the relatively quiet main building.
It's worth noting that the travel time from Sungsan Ilchulbong to this restaurant is just two minutes by car, which is very convenient. This makes it a perfect stop after visiting Ilchulbong.
The interior of the restaurant has a vintage ambiance, and I felt the good atmosphere as soon as I entered. The cute murals on the walls, featuring Dolharubang, stone walls, dolphins, and Sungsan Ilchulbong, added to the charm of the black pig restaurant.
Heukdonjjul also showed great consideration for customers, providing ample high chairs for babies, phone chargers, disposable aprons, and tourist discount coupons. The menu features a variety of pork cuts, including basic black pork, pork chops, and assorted special cuts, along with various side dishes.
We ordered three servings of black pork (900g), along with soybean paste stew and kimchi water noodles. The portions were generous, and I almost hesitated to order more, but I would have regretted it if I hadn't. Each dish had its own appeal, with the stew being particularly hearty and the noodles offering a refreshing finish.
The side dishes included green onion salad, sesame leaves, napa cabbage kimchi, fernbrake salad, corn salad, and dipping sauce, all served generously. Each was delicious, but the fernbrake was especially good, enhanced by the meat juices.
The black pork arrived looking vibrant and fresh, with a perfect balance of meat and fat. We were served both pork belly and neck meat, allowing us to enjoy a variety of flavors. The staff grilled the thick pieces of meat for us, and I couldn't help but salivate while watching.
After they were perfectly cooked, we eagerly dug in. I felt like I was inhaling the food as it melted in my mouth. My son was also given his portion cut into smaller pieces, which was a thoughtful touch. It allowed us to enjoy our meal without worrying about him.
After finishing the pork, we ordered the stew and noodles as a second round. Everyone else at nearby tables had these two dishes, so we followed suit. The soybean paste stew was hearty, and the kimchi water noodles were refreshing, making them the perfect choices for a palate cleanser.
Heukdonjjul is a spacious and clean establishment, offering high-quality fresh meat and a well-prepared dining experience. It's a great spot for families with young children, elderly parents, and even pets. If you're visiting the Sungsan area, I highly recommend stopping by for a meal; you won't regret it!
