When you think of Jeju Island, what food comes to mind? Delicious black pork, refreshing meat noodles, spicy braised hairtail, and savory abalone porridge are just a few of the many local delicacies. However, for me, fresh sashimi is the first thing that pops into my head. If you're on an island surrounded by the sea and you don't try sashimi, you're missing out.

Recently, a friend recommended a specific sashimi restaurant in Jeju, and I decided to check it out. I can confidently say it's a must-visit! The variety of fish was impressive, and they even served mackerel sashimi, which is quite unique.

1. How long does it take to get to the Jeju sashimi restaurant from the airport?

The restaurant I visited, Damihwa, is about a 10-minute drive from the airport. It's easily accessible and has a dedicated parking lot, making it very convenient. I visited on the first day of my trip, but it would also be a great spot for a final meal before heading to the airport. Enjoying some sashimi with a glass of soju before catching an evening flight ensures a good night's sleep!

Upon parking, I was greeted by the charming exterior of Damihwa, which exuded a sense of history and authenticity. It felt like a hidden gem rather than a flashy tourist spot, which added to its appeal.

✔ Address: 9-4, Donggwang-ro 2-gil, Jeju City

✔ Parking: Dedicated parking available

✔ Operating Hours: 11:30 AM - 10:00 PM (Break time from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM)

✔ Amenities: Both hall and private rooms available, high chairs for children

2. Cozy Interior Atmosphere

The interior of the restaurant was warm and tidy, with both hall and private rooms set up for dining. We chose a room for a quiet family meal. I was initially worried that the room might have traditional floor seating, but fortunately, all the seats were at tables, making it comfortable for us.

After settling in, we took our time exploring the menu, which featured a variety of fresh local fish like flounder, rockfish, and snapper, along with various seafood dishes. We decided to order the signature mackerel sashimi, which my friend highly recommended. Usually, mackerel is enjoyed grilled, so I was curious about its taste as sashimi.

3. High-Quality Side Dishes

The side dishes accompanying the main mackerel sashimi were not just fillers but were thoughtfully prepared to complement the sashimi. From a tangy salad to fresh abalone, chewy cockle salad, and salty soy sauce marinated crab, each dish was delicious and paired perfectly with soju.

To enhance the sashimi experience, there were special dipping sauces, seaweed, sesame rice, and kimchi, which created a delightful combination of flavors. I regretted not having tried this sooner!

As we wrapped up our meal, we were served a hearty fish bone soup with radish, green onion, and spicy peppers, along with fried and grilled dishes that were light and flavorful.

4. Unique Jeju Delicacy: Mackerel Sashimi

The star of the meal was the beautifully presented mackerel sashimi, cut thickly and glistening on a large plate. Unlike the firmer texture of grilled mackerel, the sashimi was moist and tender, practically melting in your mouth. It was served with both the back and belly portions, allowing us to enjoy the different textures.

5. Summary of Damihwa

✅ Conveniently located near the airport

✅ Dedicated parking available in busy Jeju City

✅ Friendly service and a spacious, comfortable environment

✅ Private rooms for a more intimate dining experience

✅ Unique menu item (mackerel sashimi) not found in other Jeju restaurants

Damihwa offers a rare opportunity to enjoy high-quality sashimi at reasonable prices, capturing the local essence of Jeju. If you're looking for a special culinary experience only found in Jeju, I highly recommend visiting this restaurant.
