When visiting Jeju, tasting authentic black pork is an absolute must. Today, I want to share my experience at Goijung, a black pork restaurant in Aewol, where you can enjoy juicy meat while overlooking the expansive Aewol sea.

Goijung is known for its barley straw grilled black pork. The restaurant’s address is 6 Aewol-ro, Aewol-eup, Jeju City, and it operates daily from 11:00 AM to midnight, with the last order at 11:00 PM.

As I drove along the Aewol coastal road, I noticed this black pork specialty restaurant that always caught my eye. Finally visiting Goijung exceeded my expectations, from its clean atmosphere to the bursting flavors of the meat.

The exterior features a neat white and black design, making it easy to spot from afar. A cute pig character sign welcomes you, and the view of the open sea right in front is breathtaking.

Upon entering, I was greeted by a fantastic ocean view with the blue sea and windmills visible through the large windows. The well-organized space added to the pleasant dining experience.

After placing my order, the thick cuts of red-black pork arrived on a clean straw mat. The freshness was evident, and I was already excited before cooking.

As the pork began to sizzle on the barley straw fire, the flames danced, creating an exciting spectacle. Watching the meat cook while retaining its juices was quite entertaining.

Once the initial grilling was done, the table was filled with a generous spread, including thick pork, galbi, cold young radish noodles, and soybean paste stew. The variety of sauces and side dishes showcased the owner’s exceptional taste.

The staff expertly grilled the meat to a perfect size, allowing us to relax and chat while we waited. The juicy pork was cut into bite-sized pieces, and I was impressed by the tender texture and rich flavors.

Each piece of black pork melted in my mouth, bursting with savory flavors. Pairing it with well-washed kimchi balanced the richness perfectly, making it a delightful combination.

Dipping the pork into the bubbling sauce enhanced the umami flavors, and adding a slice of spicy fermented fish deepened the taste even more. The combination of tender meat and flavorful sauce was simply divine.

After enjoying the black pork, I moved on to the galbi, which was equally impressive. The fresh meat with clear marbling was mouthwatering even before cooking.

The galbi was grilled to perfection, and the juicy texture was evident as I cut into it. Each bite was tender and flavorful, making it hard to stop eating, even when I was full.

Just when I thought I couldn’t eat anymore, the cold young radish noodles arrived, topped with crunchy kimchi and sesame seeds. The refreshing dish was the perfect way to cleanse my palate after the rich meat.

Enjoying the grilled black pork while admiring the open ocean view made for a satisfying experience. With its clean atmosphere, delicious main dishes, and a variety of side options, I plan to revisit Goijung on my next trip to Jeju.
