I'd heard the wait times at Anam Gukbap, a Michelin-recognized restaurant in Insa-dong, were insane. I was a little worried, but figured a weekday lunch wouldn't be too bad. So, I went for it!

Here's my honest review of this Bukchon Hanok Village gem, based on my own experience.

Anam Gukbap: Weekday Lunch Wait Time Experience

1. Remote Queuing via Tableing App at 11:43 AM (4th in line)

2. Entered the Restaurant at 12:02 PM

Total Wait Time: 19 minutes for queue number 4!

Delicious Soup

One of my colleagues tried to go on the weekend, but the line was so long he gave up immediately. So, I dragged him back for a weekday lunch, haha!

You can use the Tableing app for remote queuing!

The restaurant opens at 11:30 AM, and remote queuing via Tableing is available from 11:40 AM.

Remote queuing is only available when there are 2 or more teams waiting.

Time it right, and you can get a short wait and lots of deliciousness!

Inside Anam

Maybe it was because it was lunchtime and I was hungry, but the 19-minute wait felt like 40! ㅠ ㅠ

Give me food now!

The first thing I noticed upon entering was that it was a classy, modern, clean, sophisticated, and hip take on a *gukbap* restaurant!

Clean Interior

It's quite a departure from the typical Jeolla-style *gukbap* place. Water pitcher, napkin holder, salt container.

The tables are noteworthy: light gray brick-style with dark gray placemats.

The tone-on-tone color scheme is fantastic! You wouldn't believe this is a *gukbap* restaurant from the design.

ANAM

The table setting is neat and elegant. Spoon rest, and kimchi and cilantro served separately in small dishes.

Anam Gukbap

Anam Gukbap is served in a white bowl, not a *ttukbaegi* (earthenware pot). The emerald green floating on top of the clear broth is an oil made with Cheongyang chili peppers, orach, and kale.

Amazing Look

Amazing and fascinating!

Even though there's oil floating on top, the broth is surprisingly clean and refreshing!

It's so clean and refreshing that you won't get tired of it, and you'll end up slurping it all down...

There's also a lot of meat.

The thinly sliced meat goes perfectly with the rice in the soup.

This whole bone just melts in your mouth, so eating it is no problem at all.

The soup goes down smoothly.

Great Gukbap

Although it's not served piping hot in a *ttukbaegi*, the uncomplicated, clean broth and moderately warm temperature are a perfect match.

Cold Pork Belly

The Cold Pork Belly offers a harmonious blend of salad and chilled pork.

Squeeze some lime on top for a special treat.

It's a well-balanced side dish that even those who don't like cilantro can enjoy.

Pork Dish

Lava Rock Fritters

These black, basalt-like things are Lava Rock Fritters.

They give you two skewers, but the photo only shows one.

Rock Fritters

Dip it in the green sauce, and it's so soft and delicious????

The inside of the black surface is pink pork.

It's really soft and delicious.

Side Dish Battle

Cold Pork Belly vs. Lava Rock Fritters

My Conclusion: Lava Rock Fritters

My colleague next to me voted for Cold Pork Belly!

That's how delicious all of Anam's side dishes are.

The *gukbap* and side dishes unique to Anam made a lasting impression on me at this Insa-dong restaurant.

My own money, my own purchase, and a very satisfying review.

Highly recommended!
