Yeondon in front of the Debon Hotel
Even though I live in Jeju, I had never been to Yeondon due to the long waiting times that felt daunting.
I kept saying, "I'll go when I get the chance," and years passed by.
One day, while passing by, I noticed the waiting line was shorter than expected.
I thought, "If I don’t go now, I might miss my chance again," and decided to step inside.
Finally entering Yeondon made my heart race with excitement.
We visited during dinner time, but unfortunately, the much-anticipated cheese tonkatsu was already sold out.
Honestly, I was most curious about the cheese tonkatsu, so I felt a bit disappointed.
But since we were there, we had to eat something!
We ordered the tenderloin and sirloin tonkatsu to try.
I wasn’t expecting much, to be honest.
First, I tried the tenderloin tonkatsu, and wow, the batter was incredibly crispy!
It tasted like eating really crispy chicken, with the batter being exceptionally crunchy.
I thought someone might even end up hurting their mouth from it!
Inside, it was impressively soft and moist.
The crispy batter paired with the light flavor of the meat made it easy to enjoy.
The meat was tender, providing a pleasant chewing experience.
The sirloin tonkatsu had a rich meat flavor, and personally, I found it quite satisfying, though the tenderloin was definitely softer.
Like the tenderloin, the batter on the sirloin was also crisp and clean, with little greasiness.
After finishing, I honestly felt like I had really enjoyed some crispy tonkatsu.
Whether the wait is worth it varies from person to person.
If you’ve never been, and the wait is short, I think it’s worth experiencing at least once.
I still haven’t tried the hirai rice or cheese tonkatsu, so if I get another chance, I want to go again when the cheese tonkatsu is available.
This visit left me with a slight disappointment for not having the cheese tonkatsu, but it was still a meaningful day since I finally got to try Yeondon in Jeju.
The tonkatsu was delicious too.
For Jeju locals who dislike waiting, if you’re not aiming for the cheese tonkatsu, it might be good to try during dinner time when the line is short.
Next time, I’ll make sure to try the cheese tonkatsu and hirai rice and leave a review!
