A Family-Friendly Dining Experience in Jeju: Salt House

While visiting Jeju Island, I was eager to try the famous black pork. However, with a baby in tow, I was unsure about dining at a meat restaurant.
Fortunately, I found Salt House, a well-reviewed restaurant near Jeju Suite Hotel known for its black pork. They have high chairs available and many families have shared positive experiences dining there, so we decided to visit on our second day.
Located at 86 Jungmun Road, Seogwipo, Salt House operates daily from 11:30 AM to 11:30 PM, with the last order at 10:30 PM.
1. Close to Saekdal Beach
I had planned to visit Salt House after reading reviews, and its proximity to Saekdal Beach made it a perfect stop without complicating our itinerary.
Since we rented a larger vehicle for our family trip, we appreciated that the restaurant has ample parking space for around 70 cars right in front.
Upon entering, I was greeted by the sight of aging black pork, which confirmed that this was indeed a popular dining spot near Jeju Suite Hotel.
2. Clean and Comfortable Interior
As expected from a famous restaurant, it was bustling with customers. However, the tables were spaced out enough that it didn’t feel too chaotic.
The ventilation was good, keeping the atmosphere pleasant. The self-serve bar had neatly arranged side dishes, which was satisfying to see.
Since we had a baby, they promptly brought a high chair to our table.
They were running a promotional event where you could enjoy half-priced meat if you wrote a review! This was a delightful surprise.
The premium Jeju pork is usually priced at 76,000 won for 600g, but we could enjoy it for just 38,000 won. Other cuts like galbi and pork belly were also available at discounted prices when you wrote a review.
The special cuts we ordered came out first, starting with the premium galbi, which was visibly of high quality.
Even though the pork belly is known for its fat, the balance in Salt House's offering made it enjoyable without being greasy.
3. Subtle Smoky Flavor of Black Pork
The black pork was pre-cooked over barley straw and served to us, which was a unique touch. I expected it to take a while due to the pre-cooking, but it was grilled quickly over high heat, so we didn’t wait long.
The juicy meat looked irresistible, and I found it hard to wait to grill it at the table!
We could cut and grill the black pork according to our preferences at the table. The grill had a smoke hood that kept the smoke away from the baby, which was a plus.
Although the grill wasn't very large, we managed to fit the meat and side dishes on it, though it felt a bit cramped.
Once the side dishes and meals arrived, the table was quite full!
The side dishes included items like fern bracken and pickled radish, which complemented the richness of the pork well.
One standout was the special dipping sauce, which enhanced the flavor of the meat, making it even more enjoyable.
4. Smooth and Flavorful Zucchini Cheonggukjang (8,000 won)
I thought the zucchini cheonggukjang would be a simple dish, but it pleasantly surprised me with its depth of flavor. It had a hint of spiciness, and the soft zucchini blended perfectly.
The black pork kimchi stew (8,000 won) was also excellent in terms of portion and quality for the price.
The generous amount of pork in it made it worth every penny.
The cold noodle dish (8,000 won) was refreshing, with ice floating in the broth, a detail that still sticks in my mind.
Salt House is a fantastic dining option near Jeju Suite Hotel, accommodating both children and parents comfortably.
