A Culinary Journey at Dol Dam Black Pork in Jeju

During my trip to Jeju, I found myself with a packed schedule, especially around the Jungmun area, which is known for its concentration of tourist attractions.
This time, I visited during the canola flower season, making it a must-see destination! After exploring, I felt the need to recharge, so I headed to Dol Dam Black Pork, a renowned restaurant for black pork in Jungmun.
The location was conveniently near the Jungmun tourist complex, making it easy to stop by on the way back to my accommodation. I appreciated the ample parking space, which made the experience stress-free.
Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by a spacious and cozy atmosphere. There were many celebrity autographs on the walls, and I learned that EXO had recently visited—definitely a sign of a popular spot!
There seemed to be many families dining, and the seating arrangement was spacious, allowing for a comfortable experience. I felt it would be a great place to bring my parents as well.
One eye-catching feature was the aging room for the meat, which heightened my expectations. The thickly aged black pork was well-organized by cuts, enhancing my trust in the quality of the meat.
The self-service bar was neatly organized, making it easy to use. It felt like only the essentials were provided, which was actually a plus.
Additionally, I discovered that they offered wines that pair well with grilled black pork, making it a smart choice for the ambiance.
The side dishes were simple but complemented the meat well, enhancing its flavor without being overpowering.
The pickled green onion had a balanced taste that was not overly sour, making it a great accompaniment. The young radish kimchi was refreshing and helped cleanse the palate between bites of meat.
The seasoned water parsley was fragrant and helped cut through the richness of the pork.
At Dol Dam, I enjoyed various cuts of black pork, including the bone-in belly and neck meat, which were satisfying in thickness. The robust, meaty texture raised my anticipation.
As soon as the meat hit the charcoal grill, the aroma filled the air, instantly whetting my appetite. The staff grilled the meat for us, ensuring it was perfectly cooked. They expertly crisped the skin and flipped the meat at just the right moment.
When served, the juicy cuts glistened, further heightening my excitement. The aged black pork was incredibly flavorful, with a pleasant richness and a subtly sweet taste that made for a satisfying experience.
The neck meat had its own charm, being tender and juicy, with deep charcoal flavor that intensified with each bite.
Each cut of black pork had its unique flavor, making it fun to compare them. Dipping the meat in the special sauce added a delightful umami kick.
Alternating between the garlic sauce kept the meal interesting and prevented any monotony. The flavor varied with each combination, making the dining experience enjoyable.
No meal is complete without a drink, and pairing a bite of meat with a sip of local Halla Mountain soju was a perfect match.
To finish off, the seaweed rice was aromatic and brought a taste of Jeju to the table, while the cold young radish noodles perfectly balanced the richness of the meal.
This meal was particularly memorable, especially after a long day of exploring. Ending with a coffee was a nice touch, making Dol Dam Black Pork a great choice for families or gatherings in Jungmun.
