Highlights of the 38th Goyang Haengju Cultural Festival: Fireworks and Experience Programs

Hello!
On a warm weekend in June, I visited the highly anticipated Goyang Haengju Cultural Festival with my child.
This year marks the 38th edition of Goyang's representative festival, which features a variety of performances, experience programs, and daily drone fireworks shows.
The Goyang Haengju Cultural Festival celebrates the victory of the Battle of Haengju, one of the three major battles of the Imjin War, honoring General Gwon Yul and the noble spirit of the patriots.
This festival goes beyond mere enjoyment; it reinterprets our proud history into cultural content, instilling a sense of pride in the citizens.
The festival is grandly held at Haengju Sanseong Historical Park, and experiencing it in such a historically significant location was truly moving.
This year, I was eager to capture the dazzling drone show and fireworks, so I arrived in the late afternoon with a picnic mat in hand.
As I approached the main performance stage, I noticed many citizens already settled in their spots, enjoying the weekend atmosphere.
With the refreshing breeze from the Han River and delicious snacks in hand, the ambiance of the performances was genuinely healing.
Even after sunset, the festival's energy remained high with various flea markets and handmade booths operating late into the night, making for an enjoyable exploration.
I couldn't resist browsing the booths and ended up buying beautiful handmade couple bracelets with my daughter, which we both loved.
One of the highlights for children was the diverse experience programs, with my child particularly enjoying the 'Catch the Enemy' program, which creatively taught the history of the Battle of Haengju through play.
As night fell, the much-anticipated highlight of the festival began: the drone show, which beautifully depicted the touching story of the Battle of Haengju in the night sky.
The subsequent fireworks display was a breathtaking moment, filling the night sky with vibrant colors and reinforcing the idea that fireworks are an essential highlight of any festival.
For those planning to attend next year, arriving between 4 to 5 PM is recommended to enjoy both the daytime programs and the evening shows. Don't forget essentials like a picnic mat, sunscreen, snacks, insect repellent, and a light jacket!
