Exploring the Unique Iung Bridge in Sejong City

The Iung Bridge (Geumgang Walking Bridge) is a unique landmark in Sejong City, serving as a comfortable resting place for citizens. This beautifully designed circular pedestrian bridge is inspired by the shape of the Hangul character "ㅇ". It offers a magnificent view of the Geum River, making it a beloved spot throughout the year.
Particularly, the Iung Bridge features separate pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, ensuring safety and convenience. The two-level structure allows pedestrians to enjoy leisurely walks on the upper level while cyclists can speed down the lower level, making it a great place to experience the bridge's charm from different perspectives. In this post, I will share my experience of cycling the lower path of the Iung Bridge with my child during a weekend outing.
From stroller rides to two-wheel adventures with my child, it was a special experience. Previously, we mostly used the upper pedestrian path, but my little one has grown and is now able to ride a two-wheeler. This time, we ventured onto the lower cycling path for the first time, and it was a refreshing moment to see how much they have grown. The cycling path is well-maintained and safe, making it comfortable for both kids and beginner riders.
On a hot summer day, the Iung Bridge offers a cool riding experience under the shade. The upper pedestrian bridge acts as a large canopy, allowing us to cycle without worrying about the sun. We visited around 2 PM when the temperature was high, but the shade and the cool breeze from the river made our ride refreshing.
The stunning views of the Geum River and the cityscape of Sejong while cycling are breathtaking. The feeling of stress melting away as we rode through the beautiful scenery was truly therapeutic. Additionally, we encountered spots where cool water cascades down, enhancing the refreshing experience. The clear blue sky made the day even more beautiful.
The design of the cycling path prioritizes safety, with designated areas for resting and emergency stops. Along the path, vibrant yellow flowers add a splash of color against the lush greenery, creating a picturesque view. The harmony of nature on that day felt like a painting.
The Iung Bridge connects both the north and south sides, providing easy access from either direction. There are bike rental stations at the entrance, making it convenient for those without personal bikes to enjoy cycling in Sejong City.
The northern route offers scenic viewpoints and a spacious inline skating area, perfect for family activities. The southern route, adjacent to the Sejong City Hall, features a wide plaza and a refreshing cycling path along the river. It's advisable to start from the south if you plan to rent a bike, as there are many rental stations.
As we wrapped up our weekend outing in Sejong, the Iung Bridge proved to be an excellent destination for enjoying cycling in the shade. The well-maintained paths make it a stress-free experience for families. Visiting around sunset offers a chance to see stunning views of the sunset and city lights, making it a perfect spot for a family outing or date.
Even without traveling far, the Iung Bridge provides a refreshing escape close to the city. Why not take your child for a delightful cycling adventure this weekend?
